ive been thinking alot about how alot of BOB's seem to have tents on here and i am not sure how i feel about that, on the one hand it is great cover and saves you the work of constructing one. on the other hand... with a tent you are more easily spotted and hear (think rain hittin tent fabric) i truely am planning for worst case and thinking of everyone as a threat, so i dontthink a tent would be optimal for a BOB or at least not mine.... opinions?

I have one, a 4 man dome and also a 2 man tube tent. I use them for camping/hiking and if the noise or visibilty is a concern, you can always add natural vegetation over it to camouflage it into the surroundings. I have young kids so the extra weather protection is on my mind. If it was just me, I'd just make sure I had my 2 ponchos and rig my shelter from them.

Unlike my bag to get home, where I have a hammock, my BOB has a 3-person 4-season tent. I don't intend to have to leave home. If I do, it is going to be because the event was so severe I have no choice. That means I am going to need to have as much help as I can. Energy spent worrying about shelter is not in my budget.

The pics are with my paratarp and my eberlestock J34 inside. They are pricey, but I really like my Kifaru paratarp. It weighs 11oz without pegs or poles and offers a good 3 sided shelter with a lip over the front so rain doesn't run in. It would sleep 2 more comfortably than many 2 person tents, and is plenty for me and my gear. I've rigged shelters with military ponchos and tarps many times, but this is much quicker to set-up and quieter to sleep in. I have the annex and wood burning parastove for it also, but don't have pics with it set up.
