Womens Selfdefense

Thanks femvet, for this thread. My input is that the first, best weapon of man or woman is awareness. I walk almost daily down a wooded trail that is part of one of our national park systems. There has been an assault on the trail. One day I asked the ranger about it, as he patrolled on a golf-cart and he told me that it was a series of assaults, and it had been kept quiet. He told me local police, fire fighters, and federal agents had all volunteered to use part of their training or free time to walk or run the trail. I started watching, the woods, the runners, joggers, bikers, and walkers. I became aware of which were law enforcement or firefighters. They have different musculature and personal demeanor than runners who run for the endorphins only. I started to keep track of how far behind or in front of me these people were, if they passed, and where the family groups were as well. I started wearing a whistle, and carrying my keys in my hand. I walked briskly with confidence. Made eye contact. Walked with my dog. Avoided the areas of the trail where breaking into a run would be hard, and chose to walk the flatter trails more often. Learned the landmarks. Took note of the heavily wooded sections. Now, it's all done constantly, while I walk. I carry my cell phone, but I don't chat while I walk. That screams "victim." If attacked, what would I do? Stomp on instep, kick groin, gouge eyes with keys, punch nose. I'm sure the dog would be helping. To all the women, my advice is to be aware.

Nice job, Janet. I would recommend you attach a cubatan to your keys. Fairly effectve weapon.

If you're ever get the feeling that you're being followed, USE your whistle right away! Don't worry about being wrong. Also, turn and face him, if he makes an agressive move, take the heel of your hand and jab it hard under the bridge of the nose. Be aware, this is a potentially fatal strike!

Punching somebody on the nose will just piss him off! Also, every man knows that a woman will go for the jewlels, it's the first he will protect. Instead a full hard fist in the adams apple will disable. You might want to carry a roll of quarters with you, they will harden your fist and protect you from breaking your fingers.

Thats what Im talking about, open hand palm up just under the nose, break the front teeth,Bamb you got more blood flow than anywhere else on the body from a palm hit.Instant "what the shit"look and they cant breath because the blood is moving fast and they need to spit or lose there breath.

Thump to the eye is the left hand punch.oops sorry getting carried away.

The average women is 5ft 6in tall.So its natural to punch up to a man, again GO for it.

Thanks to both of you. femvet, I'm not familiar with this, and couldn't find a reference on my search engines. can u give a link? thanks. and will be picking up a roll of quarters. saw in another thread someone suggested duct tape on the roll to strengthen it.

had to appreciate that, thanks matt. all looks good except scenario #5, frontal assault. before the victim could think straight, there would have been a leg sweep in there. but, all said and done, it's a neat little self-defense weapon. thanks to all.

A quick review of kubatons available for sale on the internet showed prices ranging from $2.00 to $80.00, and materials ranging from plastic, nylon, aluminum, and hardwoods. Simple is better, as I'm learning. One of the videos shows the instructor using a Maglite, or similar flashlight. A quick search of our house turned up a Nebo flashlight, with its extra bells and whistles features like button compass etc, and an aluminum Maglite. The Nebo feels nice and solid in the hand, but the Maglite extends farther beyond my closed fist. Who wins? The Maglite. It has a place for a lanyard so it fits on a keychain, and the Nebo does not. For good measure, a breakaway keychain. That way, there are two weapons. Keys, to slip between the left hand fingers for striking, and Maglite as kubaton in the right. Nice. Thumbs up, guys n gals.

Pepper spray is not really too effective especially when your assailant is high on Meth....Also, it is illegal to carry in some places....A better alternative is: Wasp spray....It's cheap compared to pepper spray, and much more effective....It also has a range of 25 feet or so...whereas pepper spray can only be used up close....And, it bis legal everywhere!

I carry a Monadnock "Persuader" Kubaton as my keychain. I also can also recommend the Mini-Maglite. The Mini-Mag is a great choice for children in school or anyone who works in a PC environment, as a true Kubaton will likely be considered a weapon by the sheeple and their keepers.

The man who trained me to use it related the following story during the course. Paraphrase: His 16 year old grandaughter was being harrased by a boy in her high school. This large football player manchild would approach her in the hallway from behind and grab her a$$. She came to granddad (arguably the most experiencied self-defense instructor in the state) for help. He gave her a mini-maglite and taught her how to use it. Next day "Mongo" walks up behind her for a feel, she turns executes the technique, and puts sad sack on his back. He never bothered her again. In fact his shock and embarrasment at being bested by a little girl was so complete, he would back away and hunch down in a submissive pose whenever he saw her from then on.

The other tool I carry is called a "Lapu Lapu Corto". A smaller version designed for women is called the "Tusok". It is a small folding pocket knife with a ramp on the back of the blade and a special handle. It is designed to be used in the blade folded and closed position as an impact or pain compliance device. If the less than lethal technique fails, then the knife can be opened and used like any other knife. I learned to use it at the same school as the Kubaton, but from a different instructor.

The key to either is training. Having the tool is nice. Having the skill and confidence to use it is essential.

@Matt, showed my better half a couple of the moves from the video, using the Mini Maglite. Was a little too enthusiastic, and he actually walked away clutching the back of his hand, with a chagrined look on his face. If I did that without trying, think how effective it is with a little adrenalin behind it. Poor guy.

I second that motion. Besides, it's just plain stupid (IMHO), somebody will assume you're packing a real weapon.

Also, this is a clean and respectul site, so if you are a vendor, have the courtesy to approach the web-owner.

IMHO

judo and jujitsu are good disciplines

I think I need to insert a piece of information here

no body part is permanently attached it just takes more strength to rip some off

and the nose is a control just like the head where it is directed the body follows

A BIC stic pen is the finest self defense tool created by whomever

its a spear no its a ripping tool no its a kubaton no it a writing instrument.

If this is in your hand I do not care if your arms are pined or wrist held you can twist it into action

and there is no way it can be said it was meant to be a weapon you can carry a hand full and

in assorted colors.

I posted a web page to pressure points these are great areas to insert the point of

one of these pens at least 2 to 3 inches deep.

Edward Bulwer-Lytton in 1839 coined the phrase "the pen is mightier than the sword"

when used in conjunction with knowledge of pressure points and some leverage based martial arts

and the understanding of instantaneous dead weight is a radical and unforeseeable defensive

measure, you can have fun while making someone scream.

large people think they have an advantage I have stuck one of these pens through the foot

and I was entertained for minutes form the break dancing routine I had to leave though and did not see

the grand finale' but he was very agile for a big guy.

For those of you who want to persuade the women in your life that situational awareness is IMPERATIVE, have them read "The Gift of Fear (and other survival signs that protect us from violence)" by Gavin de Becker.

It's an easy - but scary - read, filled with real-life stories of mostly women who survived attacks. de Becker then walks you through the situation and points out all of the red flags that were missed along the way. A lot of times, the women admit that they didn't want to seem rude when they were first approached, which ultimately is something that a predator can work to his advantage. Instead of shutting him down or escaping immediately, the woman finds herself isolated or in a situation where she's more easily overwhelmed.

Anyway, it's a must-read for pretty much everyone, IMO, since even men can be targeted for violence, but "The Gift of Fear" is especially valuable for women.

    • there is a rumor that they now have a vaccine they made once they got the genetics/DNA of the virus to a USA lab....
    • I’m going to make another bet 100,000 cases by the end of this month of February, 2020. If theirs no vaccine , cure of this virus. We have a global pandemic right in front of our faces.
