Backpacking and your prepping skills.

Sorry for semi hijacking the thread awake. I just wanted to reiterate the benefits of the herbs and essential oils.

No apologies needed. We all need to be more healthy. What good will i be if i plan and prep but fail to be there when needed ?

I agree. I plan and prep and hope to get my wife to learn for the "just in case" ( a bit more realistic in my case) I am not here. Between my health and my traveling for employment right now, I have an Emergency Action Plan for her and kept it very KISS. I will get to our "rally point" and we have signals from there.

I would look to see if the old ticker can handle the added stress of a new activity. Personally i see a cardiologist every six months. I know my blood pressure and cholesterol numbers. I have my liver enzymes and kidney functions tested. I have had EKG's and heart electrocardiograms. Once a year i have a heart stress test (which i test in the 98 percentile for someone 20 years younger). But that is just me. I would advise others to seek a doctors advice. Where i work i see people drop out at least once a month. These people are in high risk categories but have not seen a doctor in years. What you don't know about your health will kill you.

hum...... i blood test twice a yr. just took my first go with a heart doc. did the EKG, stress test, ultrasound, and i believe thats it. he says im ok for exercise.

ok now whats this about the corn syrup?

Corn syrup is very bad for humans. To go short form, your liver can only handle so much filtering and sugar absorbtion per day. Corn syrup/sugar is hard to digest and ends up clogging the liver and causing some other organs to be overworked or shuts down the "receptors" the body uses to regulate hormones. Corn syrup was illegal to be used for human food until the 1970's (if memory serves correctly) and only sugar could be used as a sweetner. Corn syrup will kill ALL bacteria; talk to an emergency planner for a city that has a corn syrup refinery (Staley's) in it. They have emergency procedures if there is a spill and treat it as a haz-mat incident; as the corn syrup will get in the sewage system and kill all bacteria used for septic treatment. In your body, it will kill the "good bacteria" in your digestive tract, which opens the doors for fungus (yeast) to grow in your tract and causes other issues (antibiotics can cause same issue).

There are a few "alternative medicine" studies that show this with scientific data but www.diabetescure101.com has a pretty good summary of it and links to more resources.

I know my summary leaves ALOT to be desired, but hope I covered a very basic rundown of the problems. Corn syrup is a major contributor to diabetes because of the damage to the liver and pancreas.

I hear ya Rick. That is one weakness, but trying to cut back and incorporate coffee and green tea, which is beneficial for my blood type. They even have a list of what foods should be eaten or avoided by blood type. I only have a hard copy of that but I'm sure it's available with a web search online.

I agree with Rick about listening and with Awake about "death in a bottle", and I speak as one who must break this easy and convenient drink from my life.

oh its damn tough isnt it? i quit smoking 5 months ago. (go me!) now its time to cut waaaaay back on the soft drinks. oh what a pain in the arse this is gonna be.

i just cant really do much more to ruin my reputation. so i guess a thread hijack will make folks think im slipping, getting soft in my old age lol.

LOL... yeah, used to crash parties, now we thread hijack. I guess instead of masks, suicide vests and turbans; our "hijacking" attire is plaid, high water pants, suspenders, and reading glasses....lol. Instead of APCs and hashish, we have Rascals and Geritol. Darn, where did the time go...lmao.
