kyadyn ones work well enough. I mean I'm not dead after filtering some mystery water that was defying the laws on physics and just coming out of the ground at the top of a hill.

I've been looking into them too Rick,,,,,there are a butt load of choices,,,,that Katadyn Pocket filter seems to have really good reviews, millions of gallons of water, and you can clean the ceramic doo-dad thingy to increase its lifespan........

hey killa

somebody on here once suggested one of these. i watch several videos on youtube and read some reviews.

if what they say is true, this bottle here would be very very hard to beat for is function and its price.

One thing I don't know about these are any of them "reusable indefinitly"? or do you have to have extra filters on hand? this is one area I have no supplies for which is bad since water is going to be the most important thing to be able to have.

I have the Katadyn pocket microfilter. After doing exhaustive research I bought it in November. I have been happy with it so far. I have tried it in places in and around Austin. It works pretty well. Haven't gotten sick yet. They say you can get 13,000 liters out of it. I was looking at the Lifesaver 4000 & 6000. Great concept. The positive reviews weren't as strong for them as the pocket. And if you have to dunk it in suspect water, unless you completely wipe it down with Lysol or something how you can prevent accidental contamination. I've heard complaints about the mouth piece cover not always sealing properly on it. Plus the Katadyn pockets filter doesn't need to be replaced as often.

the big difference between the two is the katadyn doesnt filter as small of stuff out as the life saver. the only complaint ive seen on the life saver is that the first couple times use it tasted like plastic. i read the mouth piece thing on amazon i think it was, but only one person complained about it.

maybe ..it should have like a detachable half moon gauge with which you measure the ceramic filter when fits over the filter its time to replace it. u clean the filter with a green scratch pad -which eventually wears down the filter, lube 'o' rings w/ vaseline , anyway if it works an filter is good then i think its worth it ,,but if ya gotta replace the filter u might look at a new one..

see above post :) it depends on how often you clean your filter, which depends on the quality of the water your filtering,

the ones at walmart i studied, the re-usable straw kind, where you blow back "clean" water through it in reverse, to clean the straw... in little letters, it says to make sure you boil your water first or use iodine pills.. well duuuhhh, thats how you destroy biologicals in the water like gardia, aka beaver fever and other protazoa's... further reading it, it says it'll filter out "heavy metals".. whats the point of having their water filter, if i have to stop running and boil water, i jus wanna stop, pull out the straw, drink from the stream and go without any after thoughts. even the koolest ones with the filter built into the water bottle, require boiled water first. after reading that, there not so "kool" anymore. whats the point, if i can use my t-shirt, to do the same thing that thing does, before i put the, now boiled water into my water bottle. katadyn is the only one i know of, that can filter seawater for drinkable use.

for 151 bucks US, plus shipping that "lifesaver 4000" sounds pretty good. ( i added 2 pack of extra filters and 4 pack of extra carbon filters into the price, 12,000 liters or 3170 gallons of pure drinkable water) otherwise its just 112 plus shipping.

one of katadyn's products for like 800 dollars is spose to filter out seawater, pro survivor somethin'ruther...
