Drew, my heart just sped up!  You have, in my opinion, the epitome of double action revolvers!  I have had the opportunity to shoot a Python in one hand and a 27 in the other, my preference fell to the Smith.  My hat's off to you!  That's the Queen of Hearts in any deck! Would that be good in any hand? You bet!  But then you gotta draw the Ace of Spades!  I never understood why S&W ever fooled with the 25 in 45acp but 45 Colt!!!  I fold!  The only 45 Colt's I have are a pair of Colt's and the site won't let me upload them. :(

If anyone is interested here is a great site, tells of my favorite gun writer Elmer Keith guns and personal loads some are kinda stiff LOL

THE SIXGUNS AND LOADS OF ELMER KEITH

I am a stainless steel fan I love Rugers because I load them tall to make them fall and I factory crimp so there is no bullet setback or jump both in full house loads is concerning.  I noticed on some load data that certain loads were only for rifle or a Ruger pistol.  Marlin are my favorite I only owed a couple Winchesters and did not care for top eject and I have had good luck with microgrove rifling / accuracy   I have seen where some bemoan the microgroove as inferior to ballard cut bores but I can shoot 5 in one ragged hole not that anything is wrong with ballard rifled barrels and not that they are not accurate as it is what it is a rifle or pistol is accurate or not I was lucky that my combo could shoot the same load for both and put them where aimed.

Snake, You like ol' Elmer, eh? Well, I grew up reading him as well, and so when I found out that his firearms estate was being auctioned off at Julia Auctions in Fairfield, ME, I made the two and a half hour trek north to check it out. It was the most unreal experience of my life as a fellow who appreciates artistry in firearms and history - some of the most influential guns in the world were there along with other really neat ephemera. Including....well, here's just a picture of me holding Elmer Kieth's beloved "The Last Word - Old No. 5" revolver. The epitome of "gun porn". Thought you guys might like that. ;)

Some other treasures from the Elmer Kieth Collection. The finish-worn 4" N-frame with the ivory grips was Elmer's personal carry piece that he usually wore.

The double rifle is the famous .450-400 W.J. Jeffrey & Co. boxlock that Col. Jim Corbett used to great effect hunting man-eating tigers in India. A snippet from the auction house about the rifle:

There were also many Rigby bolt guns, and Elmer's famous original .333 OKH. One particular .404 Rigby bolt gun had be almost in tears, it was so finely made. I would have bought it on the spot, but nobody in the area needed a kidney.

Some very cool stuff, and I was blessed to be able to head up there and don the white gloves to handle a lot of staggeringly beautiful history.

While I will admit that Elmer was a puffed up blowhard and braggart, I also have to admit that he is one of my heroes in spite of it.  I have 4 of his books and have read each of them more than once.

I truly believe that Smith & Wesson would have gone the way of the Dodo if it had not been for the collaboration with Keith.

I Agree Smith & Wesson was going to go the safe and easy route of it worked before is working so why change it --- until OL' Elmer,  Power attracts and others had the same idea that a handgun could do more.  As the weapon you would more than likely have was a revolver as back in the day people got to their hunting ground on horse back and the rifle was in a scabbard so if you took a break searching for tracks an opportune close shot or a attack from a animal or as animals do they go off and your with what you have not all horses are named trigger some are called knot head some only come when you have a feed sack !

Attacks from animals are not uncommon and in the south large snakes are invading like Boa's and Pythons in my life I have raised about everything or helped hunt herd or wrangle it and right now I have a doe rabbit that will attack sound silly but she has 1 inch long fangs and has clipped right through leather gloves I breed her and treat her ears and she is a handful. I clip her nails from under her cage prss her down and clip what poke out it's the safest way for both of us.  I have been bit stomped run over charged kicked spit on clawed and that was from ex girl friends :P animals -- well,  they just don't know any better.

Ross Seyfried was my least favorite always some weird caliber he must have laughed himself silly thinking of those people he got to reloading fire forming and anything else he could dream up.  Don't get me wrong he probably could do all that BUT WTF for ? X- weight X- velocity the case is a matter of action or capacity I always thought if you think you need more gun go up a common caliber. So if 223 is not it 243 if not that 308 if more go to 358 or then 375.

The .338 anything has never impressed me it was an oddball and still not legal in Africa for the big 5,  375 is,  if you decide to kill a dinosaur here is your 3 gun setup 375 H&H (ouch & ouch)  and OR 416 Rigby and a Browning A5 in 12 ga. w/ some wicked Russian slugs as you can find IMHO.  I had a 458 and it sounds good but barley cracking 2,000 FPS w/ a 500 solid is OK but 416 has more bullet weight choices. If you really want to kill on both ends 505 Gibbs. Being an old head I would go 460 Weatherby magnum take some tylenol most all of these will give you recoil headaches IE whiplash. A long eye relief scope mounted forward  is a smart thing so you don't get "ringed" once your familiar it still jars your bones. still not going to be burning up 4 or 5 boxes off a bench session and Kynoch shells come in 5 round boxes.5 to 10 bucks a round.

Many moons ago I watched a boy with Napoleon complex get knocked out of a shooting bench rifle slid off on the ground beside him he tried to roil over on his right side and found he could not use that arm to raise up so he fell back and roiled to the left and finally got up he didn't look to good, someone should have told him never have both feet under the bench with a real caliber always best to have one leg behind you and not set like your going to take a nap / dead weight. it was funny as hell kinda both recoil and pain he may have broke his collar bone at least I kept my composer and acted like I did not see a thing.

One project it to install an ebony forend because ebony is hard it is more than it's worth sometimes but I think it would look good on a WWII laminated K98 stock it has a reddish streaks w/ light oak looking streaks BUT as someone bubba-ed the stock cut off the forend with hardware or I would have brought it back to military configuration BUT  changed the barrel out and went from there.still considering gluing a 1/2 inch of neoprene on the butt for pull length  the ebony tip will also cover the hole where the original cleaning rod went and give it a bit of extra length for overall aesthetics.

I got a trapdoor steel butt plate bored the butt for some "items" figure to bead blast paint it black Bar-B-Q paint wrinkle finish and put on a black ebony forend has sling hardware black finish and a black web sling satin blued /black finish and a nice 2X7 on it Leupold bridge and rings F54 barrel bold trigger speed kit commercial shroud  actually glassed the action it shoots one hole. makes a good truck gun.

You guys have let me down on this gun porn thread! To get this ball back in play, I submit my 1969-mfg 4" S&W Model 18. This is my favorite outdoors sidearm, hands down. Just got done writing an article on tuning up S&W revolvers, and this was the subject revolver. A previous owner had clipped the trigger rebound spring and polished the sears so badly that I could push the hammer off of full-cock with just my thumb. In the end, I installed a new Wilson Combat mainspring and 14# trigger rebound spring, and had to replace the hammer and trigger with the pieces off my never-used K-22 Outdoorsman from the same era. Replacement parts are on order from Numrich.

    • Newt was asked this morning about the advice he would give the democrats that he learned from his and the republicans attempt to impeach president Clinton --- LMAO he crawfished like a champ at a time when he could have reminded everyone that Bill Clinton was allowing the Chinese access to all our secrets and "THEY" the democrats all knew how dirty Bill Clinton was all the way back to White Water the Mena Arkansas connection to cocaine traffic into the united states then there is  The FBI audio tape of Bill Clinton's brother saying that Bill had a nose like a vacuum cleaner  so the attempt to get rid of Bill was not just his lying to the FBI and to congress and the people but all the way back then they knew the Clinton's were crooked ! Newt needs to retire he misses the ball is so PC and he hates Trump and is part of Trump's inner party backstabbing.

    • Ideas cannot die. look at socialism it has been proven wrong, dangerous and allows for no independent thinking, it is rigid and uncompromising. Religious ideology is just as rigid, there is no compromising with radical thought in a religious sect of any religion. Syria is my point we have been there 17 years we have trained 100,000 troops and police and they can't mop up the rest of ISIS ? This is the exact problem we had in Vietnam we trained and trained the native people that were being systematically murdered by the communists and although some were hard chargers most just wanted to stay alive, ignorant that once their enemies took control they would be murdered along with their families or worked to death in reeducation camps.  The problem is most Americans are unschooled in the ways of travel and immigration, we are told that our presence there protects us here. That is a wall of B.S. the real issue is if we do not allow them to travel here what are they going to do ? Build a Navy ? an Air force ?  or charter cruise ships, the answer is no they and their ideology is held in check by distance and their ability to travel PERIOD. Our border is a weak point without a barrier and only allowing people through properly staffed crossing we can neither keep out dangerous foreign nationals or contraband and contraband is anything from illegally captured endangered species brought in and sold Ancient artifacts fruit that may have insect eggs that would destroy our native crops counterfeit money that undermines our currency it is also a gateway for the transfer of sensitive information that could not be sent via electronic transmission without leaving a trail that could expose a spy ring in our country.  Human trafficking is a misnomer it is real but, a whore belonging to a gang in Mexico ordered to cross and set up shop in the U.S. is not going to buck or run once here they know that our prisons are full of illegal alien gang members that once on the street will hunt them down and murder them. Because the news is no longer information but a hit squad for political ambitions, we are not being explained the minutia of human trafficking there are people being sold for all sorts of reasons including children for the sex trade for cheap labor and to divert border agents from drug carriers crossing the border, so as a diversion. History of Slavery in this country knows about the underground railroad consider this tactic in reverse planting people on our side of the border to facilitate a network to move human beings and make money off of the illegals that use this service, it would also allow for each group to identify in those groups those they can turn into sex minions male and female!!! Personally have intervened through a church were we bought tickets to get abused people back to their families that were being controlled by gangs or unscrupulous people here, it does not have to be a gang small groups of unaffiliated people can act like a gang instilling fear and threats of far reaching reprisal toward them or their families if they attempt to run, this is no different than the tactics used by countries like North Korea if you escape your family will at least put in prison more likely murdered off a few at a time to terrorize others not to attempt to escape. I am just as sure that some people that have turned here have been coerced by threats to family overseas not many but, this is a tactic used to control individuals long distance. If your thinking only the middle east think again we have Jamaican gangs Chinese Russian a few versions of those Vietnamese and any other nation you can name has members of their military or gangs here working toward some end  be it clandestine, industrial or infiltrating here.  One of the cracks in our system is the fact we do not have proper internal security, trash or garbage is GOLD industrial spies love garbage as much as pigs love it, a wealth of information is contained within discarded documents it is easy to attach a device to computer systems to copy or duplicate communications forwarding them to off site.  A single individual working as janitorial staff can wreak havoc. I know of one incident where a companies data base and confidential customer lists were stolen and used to start a foreign owed company, if they would steal a companies information why, would they not steal your information like bank or trading accounts. The earth is not flat Nancy Pelosi and her henchmen are aware of the threats to our economy, individuals property companies and private information and don't care as long as they can maintain power they can and do put you at risk economically and physically every day an illegal murders someone mostly we only hear of police officers but, thousands of other crimes are not explained to us rape theft home invasions we see them in the local papers on local police blotters but fail to make the connection because people like Nancy tell us it's not true it is an attempt by the right to fear monger. Waiting on one of your family or coworkers to be a victim is insane the truth is all around all people have to do is accept it.
    • Something fishy going on ! Here is a excerpt at the bottom of this post from a PDF document you can find it at  Alaska Dept dot gov Somewhere we are not being informed about the Salmon Halibut and cod numbers fished in Alaskan waters supposedly even the crab fishing is not near previous levels . All this is conjecture I have been fishing for facts and they are not obvious or easy to find but this document seems to say that the amount of returning salmon back to their home rivers and streams are low enough to warrant closing fishing. so let us say we close this year is next going to have an increase in the numbers or is the decline caused by a factor not mentioned in this information release ?  Roughly 8 years since Fukashima Diichi power plant disaster and numerous reports of catches in the pacific are low compared to other years and some fish are not healthy a few ships have decided to check on their own I leave the type of checking up to the reader nonetheless what I can find is a mass of information or disinformation but not much on facts. Fear mongering at this point I leave that to others but I do want to know should I avoid buying pacific caught fish or not. I have no faith in information because there are too many, that have a vested interest in being given time to bail out of investments or to prevent friendly foreign fishers and economies from financially collapsing. I do wonder if this will cause overfishing of the Japan and China sea and straights as far as I can decern those waters are not effected, but fish are not confined by geography. Let me know / post any information on this thread. I am really interested to see what information we can get or see from east of the Philippines ,Java Fiji, Indonesia Micronesia over to Hawaii and up to the Alaskan coast.   ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND GAME DIVISION OF COMMERCIAL FISHERIES NEWS RELEASE Douglas Vincent Lang ,Acting Commissioner Forrest R.
