here is an 8 page pdf document on tanning hides/fur if anyone is interested. I recommend other books, "Deerskins into Buckskins" by Matt Richards and "The Ultimate Guide to Skinning and Tanning..." by Monte Burch are but a few.

This some useful information if you need to prepare pelts. Could be useful if you need to tan furs for use in the wild. The brains might be hard to come by in a wilderness setting though

To keep in touch with one of my favorite themes; the Native Americans said that every animal has enough brains to tan their hide.

I try and post as many links on anything I find that others might find useful. I just hope others are interested in the Native American and early American history as this is what I spend most of my time studying and "playing". Although medieval history is also fun and that helps me bond with my step son (his interest lies here).

I recently found a very good book on tanning, "The Complete Book of Tanning Skins and Furs" by James Churchill. It has become one of my favorites on the subject. It covers tanning to keep the fur on to making leather (fur off) and from modern methods to primitive ones. It has some pretty good step by step instructions. For those who want to acquire this skill set and practice, it's a decent investment of time and money.
