How to convince your loved ones to start prepping

Recommended Posts

I'm fairly new to prepping, but the hardest thing for me so far is convincing my family to prep too, my parents have some supplies stocked but my sisters and their families do not, they look at me like I'm off my rocker every time I try to bring it up, any ideas on how I can convince them to start prepping so I don't have to supply everything when TSHF? At least food and water, and unfortunately I feel as if we will need my sisters house as our bugout location, she is farthest from city and has largest house and property. Between the men we have enough weapons and ammo and I have enough food and water for 6-8 months on own but together we number 12 thats a lotta mouths to feed.

Prepping is like car/house insurance. Its there when you need it.

Every time I see this I think of the earlier post about Bosnia. The ones that didn't listen were the ones that sold their daughters for food and water..................so sad and horrible

Since your in Philly, you might be able to push the weather angle and point out that the feds recommend that everyone have at least three days worth of food and water on hand. You may also want to point out that when they had hurricanes hit the east coast that it took longer than 3 days for the relief efforts to get in...same with New Orleans.

Other than that I don't think there's really anything you can do.

We have a thread on here somewhere about this very issue.

Philly,

a fairly common problem. I helped write a piece for the main site on the spouse

http://survivalcache.com/family-survival-emergency-plan-emergency-preparedness/

There are also articles about older relatives, living close together for extended periods and so forth. Those could also help.

My mother God bless her would stop doing your laundry cooking or cleaning for you if you were not in line

with her way of thinking the old if you don't care about what I care about then I don't care and do for yourself.

but I would try Capt Barts way first and some others it is kind of like the nuclear bomb of weapons to use in a

disagreement but I do see prepping as serious and needs to get done ASAP.

Something that worked with my girlfriend. I promised her I would stop giving her a hard time about spending money on pocket books if she kept at least a knife, pepper spray and a flashlight in there. It worked, and now a deal-breaker for her when looking at new purses is whether or not it will hold her Walther PPS. Not a 100% success, but at least she has some essentials that she didn't have before.

This is put together by the American Red Cross and FEMA, "respectable government agencies". You won't look looney if you present them with this. It suggests a two week supply rather than just a three day supply. At least you will have more than you have now. Focus on real natural threats not an end of the world type scenario. When you watch the news and there is flooding, hurricanes, severe storms use that as a springboard. It might get them thinking.

Thanks Lemon that's a great link I sent it to my sisters, my parents don't have the net so I'll show them next time I see them, it's more my sisters anyway my parents are borderline preppers, on a positive note one ofnmy sisters ( the only one in family without a firearm ) asked my to take her to get a handgun and train her to use it.
