What have you done today to better your Prep? III

759 posts in this topic

Thanks Capt Bart, I am definitely going to be doing lots of practicing. I made sure before I bought that I had the hand strength to rack the slide without any difficulty, and although I didn't get a chance to fire before I bought, most of the reviews I read said that the gun was very easy with regards to recoil. Although labelled a subcompact, it is much heavier and larger than the Sig P290, which will make it more difficult to conceal, but easier to shoot(fun, in fact, if the reviews on it are accurate) My CHL instructor was very clear about the likelihood that we would all have a negligent or accidental discharge at some point, so at no point when I'm at the range or home will the barrel be pointed at any part of me or someone else. Luckily I finally found a girlfriend who is also just getting into the gun scene (and from hints, I think also preparedness, but I haven't broached that subject with her yet, but I will) and we'll be hitting the range together over the next several weeks.

Capt Bart,

I've never fired a 444 marlin before, will be looking to buy a rifle for it at the coming gun shows.

I was told that one could fire the 44 magnum round out of the 444 marlin rifle, don't know if it' true or not.

Anyone care to chime in with the info in this matter. Thank's in advance.

I would not but you can load them from 1,100 FPS to over 2,000 FPS they are like the 45-70 you have a lot of load

choices now from 200 grain to 300+ casting your own bullets would make it way less expensive.

and a big heavy bullet is great on medium to big game you could make up some shot shells load them like 410

you need to build your column like a shot shell but it will work and maybe a buck shot ball load for small game like rabbit

at 25 yards or so.

be aware a lever action kicks in heavy loads they need a better kick pad on them anyhow so if you get one and load a

buffalo bore shell in it get ready and don't have a runny nose cause it's going to kick the snot right out of you.

haha, no i'm not "one of those people"................LOL................It's a giant place and I did have fun for four days. Didn't make much though after all the expenses. Boy, you can tell a survivalist or hunter, etc. in that place because they do a beeline over to my stuff. Other than that, a bunch of scooters and antique hunters. I should have sold corny dogs.

Meanwhile, just booked a gun show in Fort Worth my old hometown. I'll be at Will Rogers the 25th and 26th. That's the venue I need to stay in.

Got boots that fit and don't hurt my feet. Going to another FTX this weekend for night nav.

Also, thru this group I "think" (hope) that I've finally found a bug-out location. 500 acres, lots of water, with a fully equipped kitchen and 6 steel containers being delivered this June.

I hope I don't have to depend on them for survival....................however, might make a good beer opener................lol

Ladywolf ???

have you got a tent or a plastic bag?

Well either way you cannot go wrong with water proof spray I have used it on my jacket and pants legs to keep dew from collecting

and running into my boots or soaking down into my socks.

going to pick up my new canoe so the me and the wife can enjoy the river and practice bugging out via the water

Dang I love canoes, have fun with that!

I haven't added anything today yet cause i'm getting ready for the gun show in Ft Worth tomorrow. Loading up and heading out at the crack of dawn.

Maybe i'll make enough money to buy me a good shotgun since that's still on my list. I could use some paracord because I still don't have any in my BOB even though

I see it all the time at the shows. Bracelets are cool but I may want enough to swing from a tree like Tarzan.

the canoe has been a blast and now i need to study the waterways where im at so that i can get a feel for a "backdoor" exit if the shtf. As far as the prep for the day goes the wife went through the closet and pulled out some older coats that we have since rotated through the bobs for better durability over what we had. Also our local walmart has started selling the mountain house meals in the sporting goods department so im gonna pick a couple of those up around payday.

I was sampling Wise Food and it's great but then I saw Costco with some really great prices. Has anyone tried that stuff yet???

Unbelievable prices if it's any good (tasty)

In the past three months or so I have been canning everything in sight. 12 qts plus 16 pints of saurkraut, 22 pints of piccililly, 16pts sugar free strawberry jam, 16pts mixed berry jam, 16 qts pickled beans and corn, 16 qts green tomatoes, 16 qts carrots. Will soon be canning green beans and also corn. I have dehydrated lots of fruits and veggies. I will also be canning some of the dried beans I have put away. In a worse case senario I am worried about water for all the beans and rice so I figure I should can some beans and leave alot of liquid so that when I prepare it I an add some rice or pasta.

I have also added some tacticle stuff. Oh, I have seined for shrimp and have canned 12 pints. That was the first time I've canned shrimp.
