Today I made 2 knife & axe throwing back boards out of scrap 2X4 pine wood.

These are a copy of what SOG uses for their pro knife & axe throwing events.

Dimentions are 21 inches X 24 inches X 3 1/2 inches thick.

Also made 8 stainless steel chopstick throwers, that work just as good as throwing knives.

Wally, if you have a lake nearby you really need a biger sized rocket stove. I have a Zoom Dura and it will boil a gallon of water in about 15 minutes with twigs or a foot long piece of 2X4 that you split up and a hand full of leaves or paper. Man, that thing, once it is going doesn't even smoke. It burns the smoke too! Great for cooking but also for making water safe to drink. Just to see if I could do it I boiled once with dry cow paries. HEY, they said ANY organic material would work. It did.

LOL just reread this. You can tell I'm country. Cow chips aren't available just anywhere but around here they are easy finds. LOL again.

Sorry Wally, I just tried to post 2 images.

Having issues posting with the copy & paste. Lol.

Anyways they look like iron rods, 3/8 inch in diameter & 8 1/2 inches long with a pointy tip.

I throw these at 5 yards, about 15 feet from my throwing back boards.

Been doing this since age 12. It's a no spin technique.

that's handy cause you don't know if they are weapons or not...

I tried knife throwing one month many years ago...couldn't get the spin or no spin thing down and gave up :(

Ordered another Woobie today and while I was at it I got a shemagh or two. One is a more traditional rag head type and the other is a Hobohankie. I'm kind of curious about what the difference is. Both seem to be basically Huge Bandanas. 42" X 42". I always carry bandanas and have them in big 21" X21"  and bigger 27" X 27".  If bigger is better than big this should be just great....Right? LOL, I didn't know until recently how complicated the world of Kerchiefs is. They go from HAND Kerchiefs (12" X 12") through the various Bandanas and then into NECK Kerchiefs and the Arabic Shemaghs/Hobohankies. All are cotton and have a lot of uses.

I just love my bandanas. I suspect that these will be even better for survival stuff. I also have a few of those generic "sham wow" towels. They are very absorbent. Depending on the weight of these, I may sew me some of my own from just good muslin.

This is a tip for your go bag... Crochet pot holders using para-cord. It works good as a pot holder and then unravels in a flash if you need the para-cord. I also have become pretty fond of the 350 and the 95 para-cord. It is smaller but still strong as heck and you can carry more of it also crocheted. The 350 has like 4 or 5 strands in the middle instead of 7 and the littlest one has one so even that one makes for fishing line and still have something for tying and hanging stuff. I get it from Hobby Lobby.

I'm a little disappointed in the Hobo Hankie. I was expecting material simular to bandanas or handkerchiefs. Instead it is more like cheese cloth and VERY thin and coarse. If you were robbing a bank you better use SEVERAL layers if you don't want them to recognize you! The shemagh is also a coarse weave BUT the thread is a little heavier so it is more dense and I like it better. The Shemagh will make a good dust filter, I'm not sure how the Hobo Hankie would do. When you consider that it cost twice as much as the Shemagh I think I'll order another of the head rags.

Got a bag of those short 1" Ferocerium rods with holes drilled in them and a bag of P-38s. I will plait jute and make a short cord to put them on. Instant fire. The jute provides the tinder and the P-38 strikes the sparks off the rod. I give them to friends.

A week or two ago I turned one of my slingshots into a slingbow. I suspended a ring that I cut off the end of a 1” PVC pipe coupler with a couple of wire zipties. I put two slits in the middle of the pouch to make a place to nock the arrow. It works pretty good and would easily take out a bunny or such.

Today I made an aluminum arrow into a bow fishing arrow by drilling a hole in the field point and another in the end near the nock. I ran a piece of wire through the hole and bent it back so it won't pull out too easily. I had about 30 yards of 50 lb spider wire so I used that for my line. The arrow was an old one that was already without fletchiung so it was free for other uses. For a place to hold the line I turned a piece of 1 1/2” oak into a spool about 4” long then screwed it onto a narrow piece of 1/4” plywood so I can hold it on the back of the slingshot handle while I shoot then stick the sling shot in my pocket while I pull in the fish.

NOW, this is not for going out hunting big ole gars or lunker carp. It is a fish catcher for small fish that are easy to find in shallow water. I've now harvested about two dozen aluminum beer cans from my yard and am moderately confidant that I can hit a fish at least some of the time. It actually made cleaning up the ditches sort of fun for a change.

To me a sling bow has a lot going for it. It is extremely portable and light. It is fairly easy to master, especially if you are already pretty familiar with slingshots. I was like Dennis the Menace when I was a kid and went nowhere without my slingshot in my hip pocket. It might not drop and elk or work for big fish but then again that isn't what I would want if I was on the move. Where I live, even in the dead of winter, you have to deal with meat in a hurry or it will rot. I doubt we average two days a year when the temperature doesn't rise above 40 at some point.

It's fun it's cheap and doesn't take up much room in a kit. I may order a couple of 3 piece arrows for my go bag.

NO LOL you shoot low but it all changes with distance and depth as to how far.

all I know is it is like bird hunting with a shotgun it takes a bit of practice and once you have it down it becomes more instinctive.

it takes a bit to learn how much to leed a moving target with a certain load and distance as it plays into time to target.

I figure with the amount of shooting I do 4 out of 5 is about right for me I am not going to burn up a pallet of ammo to get better as it wouold not be efficent to do so.

there is no teacher like experience but I am not at this point willing to burn my ammo to better my shooting when I do very well now except for

on the fly bird I still miss some, I like larger game if it stays put for a few secionds its mine.

That in no ways means I never miss it is just rare.

a far as what I did today I got more of what well everything it's wally world day I see what I may have used and restock and add to certain catagories

I did get more Sevin dust and spray them critters like my tomatoes and berries / grapes and they got to die.

You're right you aim low because the fish looks higher than it is.

Today I got a new steel striker and knapped some new flint pieces. I need to make some more char cloth...maybe tomorrow...after I get back from fishing. This time of year I fish twice a week. Once in the middle in once on the week ends.

Yea Damn I always wondered who though that baseball was America's past time when fishing is more fullfilling at least personally.

You have way more patients than I do,  flint knapping I did as a kid we decided we were going to make our own arrow heads.

First we went to a pile of rock that the highway department had on the side of the road and looked for flint we were amature rock hounds too we also looked for other rocks like Agate stones,  apache tear dorops Quartz and other neat stuff sometimes we would find real arrow heads.

My forefathers did a much better job than me that gene must have skipped me.

One of my military buddies, my son & I , at 8 in the morning Tuesday.

We were on crown land doing some long range shooting with a scope mounted SKS & a modified Lee Enfield that shoots 7.62X39 ammo. Shots were taken on a 18 inch in diameter gongs at 228 yards & 340 yards.

Actually about 6:15 am, we were carrying our backpacks & walked through the bushes for 1 1/2 hours to one of our bugout location.

It was a good exercise for the day.

Carrying our gear & doing some shooting.

I fish one or two days a week, every week right now, weather permitting. Saturday I put 21 lbs of catfish in the freezer. They are running now and the White bass just finished. This is THE time of year to fish in East Texas. We are having a fish fry soon! We were going to do it on Cinco De Mayo but my wife worked and was pooped so we put it off for a few weeks. I live in Riverside almost on the Trinity river. I will never starve.
