Best lightweight/compact stove for BOB for a family?

Recommended Posts

I have a Peak 1 stove that i've used for car camping on weekend trips in the past. It uses naptha gas or kerosene. I haven't seen them for sale lately in stores. Purchesed mine about 25 years ago & still going like new.

as long as you can find wood grass twigs pine cones and even turd pies a 1 gallon metal can with holes around the bottm {side of can}

makes a wind tunnel effect a similar bunch of holes on the top allows a pan to cover it and not put out the fire with a home made wire handle

it can transport coals or fire to your next camp site {and the are cheap}.

carrying fuel is great for regular camping and a penny stove is nice but ground litter {dry grass leaves and wood} are abundant and save the fuel

for times when it is cold or wet and you need fast heat.

Small homemade rocket type wood gasifying stoves are great for that. I'm still working on that. When I get one going that I like I'll post it. I carry a penny stove in my truck so I can make coffee anywhere. It's small light and easy to use...but you're right Snake. For survival you want something that burns biomass.

I have a nice rocket stove for the home front but want one that is light and small enough to carry in a backpack. The ones made from the #10 sized can is nice but still a little big. I just want it for one person 1 to 2 quart pots max. I have a little folding metal wood stove and it works pretty well but is a little heavy and isn't as efficient as a rocket stove.

Damn your right anything that uses the venturi principle / rocket style produces less smoke overall and burns hotter with less fuel.

I had considered a stainless steel thin wall pipe weld some light hinges on it for fold out legs and weld a bottom and plasma cut

about three rows of holes larger to smaller to get the drafting effect.

I like my folding stove http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/foldable-pocket-cooker.aspx?a=288270 it is light but tough big loading door. Like any it doesn't like to be in to direct of wind and the cost is low enough that it is easy to put a few in packs. You do need to add a short piece of small diameter wire to it to solidify the "free" side to keep it from folding when shaken to hard, really not an issue though. I also have a refillable esbit burner that burns alcohol, kerosene, heet, lantern oil, diesel, fuel oil...etc

http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=1009706 they will not cook a meal but they will heat a cup and your hands and make a decent candle in a pinch, and most importantly they are a flame super fast and easy!

There are many option in the folding category that I'd consider

Cheap and big

Cheaper smaller and lighter

And of course the cute but cool wallet sized

Great research DonDon

I like the one you chose and i really liked the titanium one no worry about it rusting or breaking under normal use but it was pricey

but I imagine the weight is almost nil one piece both a real plus for any camp/ bug out gear

As I looked through one thing that did catch my eye was some were assembled with separate parts these should be IMO not considered

for use as anything with parts as we all know they will go MIA.

one I like albeit small it uses solid or gelled fuel as well as small bits of ground litter.

Gel or solid fuel is great when you need fire NOW!  the solid is the size of a large stick of gum.

One great thing about all of these they cool very quickly once the fuel is removed and none seemed to be heavy

    • here is the survival coupons codes to get a amazing material of survival struggling
    • Hey all, This is sort of cool (okay really cool) and maybe some of you have heard about it because it's been plastered over FOX and mentioned by POTUS as well as other conservative-leaning news people (Huckabee, Diamond/Silk, Candace Owens, Mark Levin, etc..) and politicians. #walkaway is a movement based mostly on social media. Started last year, by Brandon Straka (pronounced Strawk - like "straw" with a "k"). He's a former 2016 HRC-voting hair stylist, from NE, now in NYC, homosexual, liberal who began to question the MSM and what he was hearing. He got really frustrated as he began to do his own research. Anyway, after having his own awakening to the lies of MSM he had been following, he began an online testimonial campaign in which former liberals can post their #walkaway stories, written or video. Many are now on the "Trump Train." Many have simply left the Left. Still, others have always been non-Left and are members in support. The amazing thing is how many different people from all walks of life are beginning to wake up. Lots are not conservative on all issues, but all have a love for the USA and dislike the demonization of open political and social thinkers and speakers. This group gives solace to people scared to voice their conservative opinions or views for fear of negative professional or personal responses. It now has budding smaller groups in all 50 states and an online discussion group where people discuss current topics or issues (WITH no vitriol, gasp).  Here's the original video from Brandon.  www.youtube.com/watch?v=51UGcghHZsk This man, Brandon has a unique, stylish, well-articulated voice to help move people "in hiding" out into the open and not be silenced. Pretty much any video Brandon does is great. Here is the Facebook page: www.facebook.com/groups/OFFICIALwalkawaycampaign/ As I see fights erupt online, I simply leave #walkaway in the comments. Brandon has a goal of 1 million members! The liberal media has called this campaign "Russian Bots" and "paid actors." It's not!!!
    • thanks to all who  have served or are serving our great country....243 years in the making....   Trump did a good job today thanking each branch of our military and a long time coming salute to the coast guard too....
    • I can imagine food prices going up this Fall or Winter. Corn is used for live stock feed, & us humans consume a lot of corn based products, as well as corn based biofuel. I’ve been keeping a watchful eye on the mid-west of America, which is flooded by water. Where corn  & other crops are normally grown there. Farmers are quite worried about this years growing season. Time to stock up on extra food if you can, if you haven’t already. Stack it high, stack it deep. Store the foods that you normally eat. What ever the  amount of food you’ve stored,  try to double it if possible. Better extra safe, than sorry.
