put the "bug" in bugging out

ok before i call it quits would some "insect nerd" please post a thread on what bug's are safe to consume....and what a good rule of thumb is on how to stay away from the killyadeaderthanhellers.....i know a bit but don't feel i have enough in put to be of much use.

 

i hope it never comes down to making a living on insect protein.....but if it does i don't wannapuke and crap away any good protein because i ate the wrong one.

AM1995 is right about the colors and smell. Some 'safe to eats' have bright colors as camouflage but best bet is to stay away from any bug that doesn't try to hide from predators. If it wants to be seen it is because it knows it's safe.

 

If not sure, there are drills for finding out if a plant is poisonous and something similar works for bugs. The other thing I'd suggest is that you get a field guide and check your area for poisonous/venomous bugs. I wouldn't want to eat a spider because I don't know where the poison sack is located. That kind of thing.
