OC: check out this version of Shankill Butchers.

Fantastic voice - and a great cover. Wow. Thanks for the recommendation! I find that such a creepy song, but I truly love it, too; I actually made a playlist that I called "Sinister Winter" with a ton of stories with a similar vibe!

JCMS - lots of classics, and great ones at that!

Okay,, I'll play! Growing up with Cream, Hendrix Crosby Stills Nash and Young. Styx, Boston, CCR, Rush

Foriegner, Seager I've aquired a weird music ear. I remember when my daughter was dating my

now son in law she said he said to her;"damn your old man listens to some good music!" At 56 I like and respect

all music from classic to Motown, Metal to the Hairbands of the 80s here are some of my favs. If your skidish

you'd better not even click on'em. If you like to rock, you may wanna crank it up.

My favorite band: Lotsa 5/4 and cut time. These guys are gr8! JMO

Coming at this from an entirely different perspective, what about more atmospheric classical music, like you find in movies? Some suggestions:

Imperial March, by John Williams (yes, Darth Vader's theme)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bzWSJG93P8

Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture (this one pulled from the movie V for Vendetta because, well, I like it):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9gYhnUKehU&feature=related

Escape by Craig Armstrong (from the movie Plunkett & Macleane)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhP6F-vxeZI

The Battle, by Harry Gregson-Williams (from The Chronicles of Narnia)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2QXLlzsgoY

And of course, used during Apocalypse Now, was Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGBDWER-wUI

Others that might fit the bill:

O Fortuna by Carl Orff (from the opera Carmina Burana)

http://youtu.be/GD3VsesSBsw

Prokofiev's Dance of the Knights (also known as Montagues and Capulets, used in the ballet version of Romeo and Juliet)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUmq1cpcglQ

Grieg's In the Hall of the Mountain King (from Peer Gynt)

Wow. Not a song on there I didn't like - and in fact, I absolutely LOVE Marvin Gaye and Warren Zevon in particular.

Your post inspired me to post this Edwin Starr classic:

But then that reminded me of this Steve Earle song that always breaks my heart:

great stuff OC

but they categorize steve earle as a country singer? to me he is great {new to me} but

I would say he is more like bob dylan "Times they are a changing" type song / band.

it is funny what passes as country now of days not that it is not great but it need to be in

a genre more suited to it's form ever since RAP mostly CRAP {not all but 90% is IMHO}

it seems like there were to many genres then there were only concentrating on

country, heavy metal or RAP it was so hard to break into the game in the first place

that bands allowed themselves to be corn holed into genres that did not suit them.

Too bad I like all kinds of music and you cannot have innovation by stifling through pidgin holing artist

I remember when stations played all sorts of music when they got specialized

that killed a lot of avenues of experimentation IMO.
