The reason prepping discourages me.

Recommended Posts

We help our own! Quite nice of you, warrior!

TCC has yet to come back and tell me what he wants. I am leaning towards making him a boot knife. It’s easy to carry, is very sharp and is always there when you need it. But it can’t be used to break things and smash small branches. So I am up in the air… boot knife or larger blade?

Personally a 5" bladed boot knife is most useful in terms of daily activities from prepping dinner to skinning game making spears, spoons, cutting ropes or cloth patterns for clothes even opening cans I have a couple of large bladed knives and machetes and I rarely use them but my five inch general purpose blades I use so often I always have an eye out for them in carbon steel. But than again I am talking from my own personal experience.

Warrior, we think a lot alike. However, I can only legally make a 4 inch blade. I live in the Socialist State of Massachusetts and it is illegal for us to own a double-sided blade longer than four inches. So I will start on his blade which will be slight – and I mean SLIGHTLY - under four inches. I’ll post a picture when done (if I can figure out how to do that on this site). I make a pretty nice boot knife. It’s the sheath that I screw up!

Warrior, you can’t even imagine how narrow-minded these politicians can be… and the public is just as bad. I won’t get too deeply into depth, but ammo makers refuse to send ammo to any residences in Massachusetts. I believe that Boston’s gun and knife laws might even be worse. That’s why right now, if it’s legal, I want it. Then, when it is made illegal, my equipment will be ‘grandfathered’ in and worth a heck of a lot more!

TCC’s knife has been a pain in the backside so far. On the first set of scales I used, the green dye did not impregnate all the way through the wood. So, from the front it looked good but from the side it was a disaster! So I sanded both scales down to steel and started again. It was at this time that I found out that the wood I was using was, to be kind, terrible. One piece of the second pair blew up. Not big… just big enough to put a crater on one side of the night. My reactions typical and proved - beyond the shadow of a doubt - that the phrase, “curse like a sailor” remain accurate… even to retired sailors! So, I am on my third set of scales but these are looking good… so far. Instead of the normal two pins, I used six 1/8th inch brass pins and two ¼ inch mosaic pins. I have done these before and they look good.

TCC, we made your decision for you. You are getting a boot knife. I sure hope you come back and read this thread. I really want you to have an integral part of your preparation supplies!

Hey TCC, your boot knife is done. It currently resides right next to the last hunting knife I made. I would like to get it in the mail to you soon. Please send me your snail mail address. The shipping is on me. There are no strings attached.

I just took a picture and now I am trying to figure out how to post it. However, I come from the shallow end of the gene pool, so it might be weeks bfore I successfully post it!

OKay... I figured out how to post it but the picture is too big. Now how the heck do I make them samller? I forgot.

Alright you guys… don’t laugh. I though that I uploaded the picture from my desktop. The computer said I did. So, when I went to check it, the picture was not on the site and I somehow ripped it off of my desktop. Like I said… shallow end!

Personally, I think he should take a picture of his birth certificate, drivers license and social security card and post them on the forum. That should do it! :P
