At one point or another in a SHTF situation, this is all you will be left with, so this is perfectly reasonable, IMO.
I've heard of hospitals boiling bed linen in times of water/power outages. So this has to be acceptable on some level. I believe about 20 minutes would do it maybe.
thats how it used to be done...they even "recycled" used bandages/linens by boiling, you can also sterilize instruments in boiling water bath and pressure canners work extremly well
