Regulator5 11 Report post Posted April 22, 2012 Humor post follows: Ok, I think we need to call the US Forest Service and National Park Service for dedicated wildlife control specialists as our site seems to be getting overrun with 'wolves"...lol. We have silver, danger, tinder, grey, lone, sister, urban, a whole pack, and last but not least sky on top of the "just" wolf. Now are any of you as big as the ones from twilight? Of course that might get my wife joining in the discussion...then where would my safe haven be? Of course I do feel better as the wolf is my totem; so I know I am among "family". ----wanagi wa-ya I just couldn't resist and no intention of offense, just keeping the conversation lively and fun. tinderwolf 11 Report post Posted April 22, 2012 Tinder wolf is because I am great at making fires and am a lone wolf...or at least I used to be!
Regulator5 11 Report post Posted April 22, 2012 All I care about is you're a brother.... I actually like seeing the wolf name out there. I actually have quite a few household decorations of Native American design/style which encompasses the wolf as the theme.

survivalcyclist 10 Report post Posted April 23, 2012 Polar bear for me. Large, mostly white, not bothered much by the cold, and people who don't know me think I look cute and soft. (grin) My wife teases me with Bernard bear cartoons, especially the one where he's in the gym.

Regulator5 11 Report post Posted April 23, 2012 (edited) Tinder, that's just wrong....lol. Be nice to have a thread about why people chose their usernames. It may have already been done and I just missed it during my long absences tho. I chose mine because it was a my radio call sign for my team. It was 1 way I could keep honoring my "kids" since I can no longer serve with them. Edited April 23, 2012 by Regulator5

Some choose a nickname, first name, or a username to speak to the user's thoughts and ideas. We have people prepping for several different events, yet the same event, and also add in the different regions and/or countries for members and we have a well rounded mix of ideas and thoughts on needed gear and ways to use it. oregonchick 10 Report post Posted April 23, 2012 Wolves are great animals. Intelligent, loyal, fierce, aware... Could be worse! As for my own spirit animal, I'd like to think I'd be either a crow or puma/cougar, but fear that if I took a serious look at my inner beast, I'd wind up being a squirrel. FWIW, I picked my username because, although I am undoubtedly a feminist, when I went to college this really abrasive woman tried to tell me - and a whole group of students in a lecture series - that basically ANY word you use to describe a woman other than "woman" is derogatory (even lady should be taken as an insult because it constrains a woman to a certain set of behaviors/manners). I found that so annoying and irrelevant that when I had to pick an internet username, I decided to call myself a chick as a reminder to NEVER take myself as seriously as that old battleaxe. I aspire to at some point be comfortable referring to myself as a broad, but I don't think I have quite enough life experience or moxy. Yet.
Regulator5 11 Report post Posted April 23, 2012 OC, nice way to look at it and good thinking about not always being so serious... it will burn you out, trust me. I wouldn't look down upon squirrels, they are industrious preppers. They save food all year it's available and constantly keep working on their BOL to make it better and more comfortable. They are so good at prepping, even one of the genus is named the "gray".
awake 10 Report post Posted April 23, 2012 (edited) I can appreciate the humor but i thought i would inject a little history here. The Cherokee Indians had Seven clans. "The Aniwahya (Wolf Clan) representing war. The Wolf Clan is the largest and most prominent clan. They provide most of the war chiefs. They are the keeper and tracker of the wolf. They are the only clan who could kill a wolf through special ceremonies and wolf medicines. It is their responsibility to develop, maintain and teach the knowledge of loyalty, protection and security. They have the ability to keep up to date intellegence on the surrounding environment, to function as part of the group while maintaining their own individuality and the wolf an its habitat. The clan color if the Aniwahya is red, their wood is hickory and their flag is red with white stars". Howl on you wolves. Howl on. Regulator5 11 Report post Posted April 23, 2012 If you need to know anything Cherokee i can help. Thanks Awake. How to say this... I want to know everything...lol. I have been studying more and more as my era changed from American west to Colonial and more towards my roots. I was already studying the Lakota/Dakota so I had to research the other branch also. LOL awake, thanks for the explanation of the true meaning of the Wolf Clan. I think the more we learn about the Cherokee (and other tribes), the more knowledge we'll have to apply to our own survival efforts. The people who did it first may have done it best, after all! 101matt 17 Report post Posted April 23, 2012 Cougar For a long time this has haunted me!I encountered one on a dark road in Northern Wv near the Penn. state line.1975 just after I got out of Military... I was troubled and needed to clear my head,I heard it russle a bit and I almost wet my pants!!I carried a hicking stick and bet the bushes and yelled!! I went back after day lite and found his tracks..Yep Cougar!!!they had been clearing the "NEW" state park. Rockey Gap north of Cumberland Md. I knew He could have gotten me easy! But chose not to. How long did he watch me??Did he KNOW I was troubled? A bound was formed that day and I have been a cat person ever sence. This large, solitary cat has the greatest range of any large wild terrestrial mammal in the Western Hemisphere,A capable stalk-and-ambush predator, the cougar pursues a wide variety of prey. This cat prefers habitats with dense underbrush and rocky areas for stalking, but it can also live in open areas. The cougar is territorial and persists at low population densities. Sorry but Im too much like him to deny it. JMO..
