alot cheaper and more complete to build your own....companies make them for the masses....you can build one suited for your own needs.

I agree with the others, build your own first aid kit. You can get a decent sized MOLLE pouch to hold sort of an EDC (for after SHTF) for around 20-25$. If your thinking of a bigger one for a family/group, you can find other larger puches or packs for around 35$. Then start assembling what you need into your pack.

Its just my experience that the premade kits come in cheap containers, and are pretty decent, but dont have exatly what you need. Like maybe no snakebite kit, and you live in venomous snake central. Or maybe it doesnt come with ace bandages, and someone in your group is prone to having a bad knee.

For $100 I would look at the M3 medic bags of the military (approx. $40-50). The bags aren't all that great but will work until you can get a better set up. There are also several extras that will need added to the kit to make it more complete. Look at Dr Bones and Nurse Amy's site (www.doomandbloom.net) to look at their modules (listed under store on site) and that will give you a good list to go by or purchase their kits.

I included the links to show you the different kits and 1 site is just empty pouches/packs. You can also run web searches for wilderness trauma kits/supplies or tactical kits/supplies to find distributors online.

I'll add my vote to the 'better to make your own kit' crowd. You will get more for your money, and you will get none of the things you think are useless/wasted space.

First aid supplies are something that should be tailored to your personal needs and the environment where you expect to operate. You also need to think about what kind of injury/illness you might face, and whether or not you know what to do to treat it.

I would suggest getting your bag/box/container last, however. Once you figure out what you really need, and then add what you really want, the resulting stack of items needs a container that will hold it. If you buy the bag/box first, then you are forced to make choices to get everything to fit inside of it. Regulator's links (above) are very good places to start your own list of components.

THe little bag for a med kit does matter all that much. Its the contents of that bag that matter alot more.

THat said: something as simple as a 'Stuff Sack' could work.

As for med kit stuff on a budget: Clean it>Disinfect it>Dress it

1 bottle Iso. Alcohol & bottle of Hydrogen peroxide. Less than $2 each.

Tube of Anti-Biotic Ointment

Box of Bandaids

Box of Gauze

Cottonballs

1 roll medical tape

Vinyl Gloves

All that should run you about $20
