What if we are being monitored?

Recommended Posts

OK, this isn't meant to be a tin foil hat kind of thread but I've noticed throughout history, one of the big problems with oppressive governments is the lack of trust that they generate among the people. I've noticed that part of the recent Executive Order flood is the ability to maintain data on American Citizens who visit certain "types" of web sites, in this country, who are not on any terror watch list and are not suspected of being terrorist. It is purely a fishing expedition.

Knowing that what I write on the site may/will become an issue the next time I go to get a clearance or a promotion, it is natural that it gives pause before I hit the send key. Guys who have clearances now are absolutely at risk of "additional investigation" based on what they write. If one of them had told me it had happened, I'd have to be careful how I said anything for fear of getting them entangled in a "canary trap". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canary_trap

I am not saying to not speak out nor am I saying we should hide our desire to be full citizens of this country. I am simply pointing out that those of us who post are no longer "gray" to the level of those who avoid these kinds of sites. Even just looking is often tracked; posting is not required. While I think that we have to be careful not to cross the line into "conspiracy to commit treason" I also think it is healthy to express our frustrations and share ideas on how to prepare to help ourselves and our communities should the Black Swan show up.

What do you guys think? Is my tin hat on too tight or do we really need to watch our P's and Q's?

I think you are right on track Capt. Sometimes I think we tend to get too paranoid that the government would actually be interested in us bit then again they always need scapegoats =] I figure anyone who gets onto any

Y kind of tech is tracked and that info is the taking for whoever is interested in it. While I have no interest in over throwing our government or even going against it I agree that you probably shouldn't post things on the inherent about your feelings or intentions towards such actions.....unless you want to end up in a dark room with a locked door.

i think your spot on also......i limit the number of sites i visit to two.....and never write anything i think will set off any bells...shouldn't be too hard for "them" to tell the difference between those prepping to survive and those prepping for something more sinister...... but then again "their" track record isn't exactly stellar.

I am so glad that someone has figured out why it is important to not run off at the mouth about everything and why some subject matter is not appropriate to discuss on an open forum. I am not saying that we can not express our views, under our constitutional rights, I am saying that we should think about what we say and how we say it.

I would not want the good people on this forum to be painted with the same brush that I hear some preppers are portrayed as gun crazy dope smoking nut jobs. We are ultimately responsible for what kind of impression we leave on others. But our actions and words can be seen by others , just by association on this forum, as being also the ideas of the whole group. It is so much easier for them that way since they do not have to think or read all the posts. Remember, what ever you write someone will read. There are many good people on this forum, lets not spoil their reputation with some side issues which may not have any place here.

I think its obvious we shouldn't reveal too much of anything. To be honest, I feel helpless when it comes to government. We elect a bunch of people who then use the power they are given to become more powerful or set the stage for someone who is very corrupt down the road to do something very bad.

Overall, I just hope the "government" or shall I say the "people" who "govern" do not become so engrossed with their power that we all end up paying. Or at the very least, that they are too cumbersome to divert resources where they should not be diverted in the first place.

Absosmurfly there is no anonymity on the internet.

If you want to be safe, never say a thing you wouldn't say in front of your boss.

Obvious advice, I know, but true.

Same thing with email, etc.

Gmail tracks what searches you make(there's an NSA - google alliance, I think a previous head of the NSA just went to work there).

Its all about "DRAMA"..just like at work, somebody gets upset about what was said in a conversation that had Nothing to do with those who were "ease dropping"..

Whatever... If the government wants me, they know my name, Social, and address. They know what guns I own, my credit history, my medical history, and probably even my shoe size. If they want my guns, or to kill me while I sleep, they probably could handle it without a wink. So what? Nuthin much I can do about it. And quite frankly, they don't want me, or my guns or my food. That is, at this point, just for fueling the paranoia by the prepping machine. Books and movie tickets and DVD's sold, equipment going out the door.

Conspiracy theory? Really? Here's mine:

Grew up with parents who knew how. Knew how to farm, sew, cook, paint, do their own oil change, can their own produce. The books I read, given to me by the machine, were all about self-reliance. I fell in love with it. It was like dope. But our generation was locked up in a suburban box and kept away from the reality. My Dad still to this day cringes if I mow the yard. He's sure that girls can't do it without cutting off a foot... Rodale Press was in our home and I lived and breathed it. Dreamt of the freedom of raising chickens and rabbits and building a cabin and making soap. But I was told to go make some money instead.

My generation's children and the one's in between have technology, and animated worlds full of life an death. So, how does the Mothership we call the USA bring them/us back into a self-sufficient mentality? Somehow "Little House on the Prairie" doesn't beat "Angry Birds," Twitter, and facebook.

So take a little "Conspiracy Theory" mixed with a little current events, and a little reference back to how to actually be prepared to survive a season, and throw in a not-so-underground underground movement and Voila! You have prepping. The LDS folks have been practicing it all along. Seems like they never lost the way. Mark my words, the economy will pick up if you sell bikes, and tents, and ammo, and weapons, and books, books, books.

Self-reliance and preparedness made this country great. There's no reason for the government to give you trouble unless you're looking for trouble. But if it makes you feel more like being self-reliant and prepared, I'm sure they don't mind you believing it.

Post Script: Just in case I'm wrong, I take no responsibility for what was written above. My dog has access to the computer, as does just about everybody else.

I don't give a rat's rear end anymore. I've been on their watch list for a long time and faced the fact a long time ago that I may eventually have to pay for my Anti-American Government feelings and activities. I've was a member of an active militia all the way back to the mid to late 70s.

If that didn't do it I assure you that I made the list during the Clinton administration...I was a FFL holder during the Janet Reno days. Fortunately they hit my partners place instead of mine. I would have killed the first one through the door if they had kicked my door like they did his. Then it would have been like Randy Weaver at Ruby Ridge and The David Koresh compound in Waco. Both were hit because they were Dealers and held FFLs. I sleep with a gun over my bed and KNOW to do head shots because they wear body armor.

Like Koresh and Weaver we were raided because of an "anonymous tip". They beat my partner to a pulp (37 stitches in his face and he pissed blood for three weeks.) terrorized his kids and wife and stole both money and guns from us...then when they couldn't find anything wrong they offered not to press charges on Henry for assaulting a police officer (the butt of their shotgun with his face and the toe of their boots with his kidneys) if we didn't say anything. They found nothing wrong and still we lost several hundred dollars and three guns that disappeared during their search.

The guns were verified there when they kicked the door because that was part of the search. They went over the books because we were accused of having guns that were not logged in and missing guns. Nonetheless after it was all said and done three guns that THEY said we had and were logged were no longer there. It cost Henry his marriage and a lot more because the four year old had trouble for years. She would go hysterical if a cop even looked at her. One of the Gestapo carried her into the room by her hair, killed her kitten (stomped her head) and let her watch while they beat her Daddy half to death after they had him cuffed.

We folded up our tent, I sold every gun that I had that had paper on it. Henry was scared to death and wasn't going to do ANYTHING to land them on him again so we just faded into the dark...I guess they got what they wanted. At least we survived.

LET the BASTARDS look all they want! I swore years ago that if they ever kick my door that I'll take a crowd with me. I'm an old man now and don't have much fear anymore of much of anything. Hell nearly anything beats dying of boredom. LOL.

I know some of my comments are monitored, but I don't think anyone cares about me posting my rants and info. All the things I say are usually info from other websites that are bigger then me so I'm not a "Internet Rebel" or whatever name they may have for me. They can see my humble opinion and your not so humble opinions if they please.

But for personal information, our internet privacy is gone, since about 2008-ish.

I trust paper and pen still.

But like many, stay grey as much as possible. We can never be completely hidden because it takes cash!

So add the fact that somebody is stalling the growth of the country and "there it is" another reason NOT to trust..

Great show Desert Rat. I've been listening since the Art Bell days.

I agree that there are times when we need to be gray. But there are also times when we shouldn't be. I believe that if we don't use our rights -like free speech - we are in danger of losing them. These rights are at the core of our Republic and many of our young men and women,(including many of you) have fought and died to protect these rights. It would be a shame if we let their sacrifice go to waste because we are afraid to exercise these rights at home. That being said, running off at the mouth to a neighbor about all of your preps does not constitute free speech. I know I'm preaching to the choir here.

Always liked Art but at the moment Mr John B. Wells has had some of the most

interesting interviews lately. One comes to mind with Gary Ridenour.

Well sir it's my opinon that it is an honor and privilege to be a U.S. citizen.

Not a right!

Our fathers shed blood and sacrificed for our constitution. I can only imagine what they went through in 1700's.

If the Constitution were ever to be suspended, there'd be no rights for no one. Then there would be another history lesson about more patriots in another 200yrs. There's nothing more important. It would blow your mind to know just how many countries would love to see us lose that. I took that oath to

defend the constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.

On the flip side it could be like registering firearms. The more people they know are out there just represents the growing numbers of those against their agenda.

If no one spoke out or purchased guns then the liberals would slide gun control right through, same iwht censorship when they know millions of Americans are mad.

won't help Bart, sorry 'bout that, but for the general good of things it could be a plus that they know how many people are upset with the state of things.

I agree that it is an honor and a privilege to be a citizen. My point is as citizens it is all of our responsibilities to protect all of our rights. Through complacency or being afraid to speak up we lose these rights. And recent legislation - I'm not sure if it's part of the NDAA or came subsequent to it - now says that if you are deemed to be a threat you can be divested of your citizenship. So in a sense it is a right. This might be getting away a little bit from Capt. Bart's point. Yes, there is a time to be gray, but when the dark cloud of fascism makes you hesitate to speak up then it is time to reassess being gray.

Capt. Bart,

You are absolutely correct. It does not make sense to show your cards while the game is still in play. Why would anyone want to draw so much attention to themselves? Not good OPSEC. As long as we discuss prepping issues and issues dealing with woods craft, subsistence, weapons and other issues of this type, who cares. When we get ourselves in trouble is when we start advocating issues which the Govt. sees as inflammatory. It seems that some people want to twist the tiger's tail. It has always been my observation that tigers have teeth. Acting without thinking or talking without thinking can get you in a real world of hurt. If you have to express some sensitive ideas to someone then use "Back channel communications".

Agreed. Its only when citizens unite in such a way to demand a change that any change is made. I think thats the primary reason Obama was elected in the first place, they thought he was going to be some sort of magic cure to problems brought about during the Bush administration.

I think many people are disillusioned with him now. Some, however, are blissfully ignorant of the things he has been doing.

Did anyone hear about his comment to the President of Russia?

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-57406067-503544/boehner-calls-on-obama-to-clarify-flexibility-comments-on-missile-defense/

I apologize if I'm derailing the topic. I am very concerned about my rights as a US Citizen and although I stay away from politics, I don't see how the hell anyone can support Obama.

<sigh> Do you know the definition of an "honest" politician? Ans: Its one that stays bought.

Are we being monitored? Probably, but so is the rest of the web.

Its like I used to tell people when I was still working in IT...yes, I can look at everything on your computer without you knowing it, I can monitor your web usage and what sites you look at, I can read your e-mail before you get it. But unless it interferes with your job, we don't really care...most people just aren't that interesting that I'd want to do that.

And that is kinda where we are...yes we bitch about the current administration, we are frustrated by the path our government is on.

But if you really look at what prepping is about, its about withdrawing. We aren't chanting antigovernment slogans while waving weapons, we aren't screaming about violently tearing down the existing government.

We are talking about withdrawing after the system fails, we are not actively attempting to make the political system fail. It seems to be doing that without our help.

...I used to have secret clearance through the military, as a result <and some other stuff> I am probably already in half to three fourths of their various data bases already. Read somewhere that one of the groups the goverment was interested in were: exmilitary who owned guns and were conservatives. Go figure.

So Capt. Bart, no I don't think you need to loosen up your tin hat.
