That's a bit of a tough one, in a coastal area you can boils sea water down for salt crystals. Inland there are certain plants that store salt in their root systems, by boiling the roots you can harvest salt crystals. I've heard in passing about salt collecting on bank stones around certain types of streams but don't know much about that side.

Coastal salt warning. It will hold hat ever contaminants are in the water already and concentrate them as you distill off the water. I know i have made salt from sea water, it was a nasty brown black from pollutants.

Thats great if you are on the coast! But if your inland in an inch situation you are screwed, not like you are going to put 200 pounds of water softener salt in your inch/bob! I've known the several possible ways of obtaing salt prior to my post. I was just curious to see how many actually know how to get it! Best easiest way i for me to get salt is by cutting about 6in long as thick as your thumb hickory tree sticks boiling them in water until all of the water has evaporated, what you get is basically salt. Its brownish black taste like salt but also has its own taste. Try it and see what you think!

Sea Water – Sea water can be diluted with plenty of fresh water to get the salt your body needs. (never drink pure sea water, doing so can be dangerous to your kidneys.)

Plants – In America you can get salt from the root of a hickory tree. You can boil the roots until it evaporates and salt crystals are left.

Foods that naturally have salt – Seafood, carrots, beets, poultry and most animals.

Salt Licks – A salt lick is a salt deposit that animals lick to get there intake of salt. You can also find them in farming areas set out for cattle.

thanks Awake

boil roots of a hickory tree, well I so glad it easy as that I was getting worried

it was going to be difficult LOL

hey were i am a hickory tree root is easier to come by than some seafood.

on the serious side we should all be aware as to the salt content of our food stock. Most of the time we will not need salt. I do have potassium and magnesium stocked up as they are hard to supplement via food

hickory roots have higher concentration of salt than the branches do, true! but in a survival situation im not gonna waste vital calories/energy getting to the roots! enough salt can be obtained through the branches withought wasting energy! and of course your food suplies and meat contain salt! also boiling bones of an animal to make a broth has good amount of salt.

    • Watching the news (really should avoid that)  but they are using Ketamine as an antisuicide medication and the user says it keeps her from committing suicide DUH and chronic pain does not make a person suicidal ?  I have friends that have had multiple surgeries to stop chronic pain some with no success or limited success. I for one feel the AMA and the FDA use less than scientific methods and allow certain doctors much more leeway to function everything can be addictive there are people who are addicted to eating laundry soap some people cut themselves or body dismorphia. IMHO it is reasonable to suspect a person is overusing medication when request for refills mount or their blood test show higher amounts than normal so we have controls I guess using an ID to track will help. Better living through chemistry I believe in it not as abuse of a drug but use to control pain and allow people to have a life, Ketamine if it is useful use it I do not see a problem with pot for people with life threatening diseases I do think as other drugs we cannot totally trust doctors because some will prescribe without care just for the money and there need to be limitations on operating vehicles people need relief but do not need to endanger others IMHO.
    • True forgot about them well really on purpose cause they are FRIGGIN' HUGE. I liked the Coonan as it was a 1911 style and not that HUGE..... I should have stated I wanted them to build one more affordable and more of them.

Used a few times with great effect, still have it...somewhere around here, I'm sure. Have a couple of grandsons that are "into" paracord projects. Sent them a jig and oodles of paracord, along with one inch diameter steel balls, for "key fonts, for each of the adults I. The family. About half are finished, so I'll pick them up in June. Never can tell when a key fob will be needed....
