    car Survival tool

So this sunday on the US 101 I saw a bad accident involving about 4-6 cars. It looked bad but no one appeared to be seriously injured. I was thinking about stuff and then I started to think what type of Tool/weapon do I keep in my vehicle. For example I carry a USGI folding shovel in my truck, a claw hammer, and a camp hatchet. They could also be formable weapons if I needed to use them to defend myself, or they could help me save someone by either digging their vehicle out or breaking their window in case of a fire or they passed out after an accident which happens more often that people think. So yeah, A hammer is my first choice a nicer beefy framing hammer would be a good choice or a camp axe for sure. So the question What do you carry? Picture would be nice. Side story. I often carry a huge wrench the kind to take off the trailer hitch ball its massive. car tire replacement kits don't have tire irons like before now they are cheap and flimsy. I use to want to carry the Stanley FUBAR tool. I still do but I use to too.

    how is your water supply?

I have been setting up my BOB and my BIB and have enough water purification tablets to purify 200 gallons of water, and water purification straws to purify another 100 gallons. i am mainly so prepared because my BOL is quite a ways away, and if i am moving i have planned to hit many streams and lakes but i would not have alot of sit time to boil water to purify. so how prepared are you? how much water can you safely purify to drink when the SHTF? and how much water do you have already bottled in the house when the SHTF?

    BOV and GHB

so while my BOV might not be backed to the brim with equipment it has enough for me to get home from any local location (20 miles from work) if i go anyplace else i would pack more gear. this is a hyundai santa fe, as you can see the hidden compartment is VERY nice. while most of the items are fairly self explanatory i will detail you in on the bag and knife. the knife is an urban survival knife that has combat knuckles on the grip, 2 throwing knifes in the grip, a pointed butt end and a steel blade this is for use in high risk situations which if SHTF and say a solar flair disables cars and electronics and i have to grab the bag and go i might just need. the bag is an under armor gym bag. i chose this simply for the storage space which will also hold the 2 gallons of water you also saw in the trunk.

    WROL/SHTF Does Not Equal WAR

I've been seeing and hearing a lot of talk about combat carbines and some seriously ridiculous firepower. Firstly, I'm not anti assault weapon (yeah, I mean select fire) or anti militia, and that's not the debate I want have with this. I feel that in most situations WROL/SHTF doesn't equal war and therefore doesn't require military weapons capabilities. The only exception I could think of is a community on community conflict. However, for most realistic events, I think that a 3 gun arsenal of: 12 Gauge Shotgun, bolt action Deer rifle, and pistol is sufficient for WROL. Let's imagine three scenarios: Scenario 1: Organizing a neighborhood/community defense with sufficient man power to have shift based: fixed positions, road blocks, over-watch positions, security patrols, and a quick reaction force. Firstly, no gang or "raiders" will attack a location with that much security. They would assume that this outpost has resources and try to infiltrate a thief. Harassing fire could be used as a diversionary tactic or even revenge attack (depending on what happened to the thief.) In either case, a scoped hunting rifle would provide an effective response. In this scenario 12 gauge shotguns and deer rifles would get the job done! No need for fire and maneuver with Ak47s. Scenario 2: Getting mugged and attacked for your shoes... Most street attacks happen at very close range, besides, why would your attackers want you to see them coming from 100yds off? Fernan Ferfal said that the muggers after the Argentina collapse were not obvious. Let's say a sniper targets you? You would probably be dead anyways, but if they missed, you should probably just run away! The longer you shoot at them or advance the more likely you are to be shot! Also, in conditions where open carry of long guns may be too high profile or conspicuous, a pistol is more flexible. Scenario 3: SHTF Bug out car-jacking. (I don't recommend this option but many arm chair survivalists seem to endorse it) Let's say you drive into a an "L" ambush with crossfires? You're probably already dead, and if you do survive, these operations are generally conducted at under 35 meters so a fighting rifle is unnecessary. Another thought, panicked LEO's or martial law conditions would probably mean that a vehicle with fighting rifles sticking out of it or even just visible in it would be: a. shot to pieces, b. have it's weapons confiscated (think Katrina) and or c. have it's occupants arrested. If you drove through a checkpoint with only a pistol, unless you were thoroughly searched you'd probably be fine. The most likely carjacking event would be sitting in a traffic jam and a desperate family man who has run out gas puts a 9mm to the driver's head. You could sure bring a pistol to his head faster than you could maneuver an AR15. Besides, you still have your colt because it wasn't confiscated at the checkpoint remember? Give me your opinions gentleman and ladies, positive or negative, you won't hurt my feelings. Happy prepping.

    Hand Tools for SHTF

I'm looking to pick up some hand tools for general use, but also for SHTF. I have the standard tool box (hammer, few screwdrivers, pliers, etc) for a small condo dweller. In addition, I have a few battery operated power tools (drill, circular saw, dremel, etc). However, I know I need to add to my hand tools for when we live the city and can get a bigger place, as well as, for SHTF. So my question to you, what would be on your list of must have hand tools?

    Pick and Choose

S has H T F and you need to choose. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The scenario is an EMP, it may be from attackers, solar flare, or anything, you have no clue where it came from. Your driving your car and it breaks down, and all of your every day carry items are magically gone! Your in a sub-urban environment with mostly houses nearby and panicking people, cars have crashed and people are hurt although rioting and violence haven't started (yet), its approx 9 P.M. and dark out. 1. What would you pick to have with you (pick 1)? A. Your favorite knife with a compass, matches, and sewing string. B. Your favorite pistol fully loaded but no extra ammo (concealable). C. $500 Cash (all in 1-20's) D. A fully functioning Zippo, a pack of cigarettes, and a simple pocket knife with no special features. E. Your favorite fully loaded shotgun, no extra ammo. F. A backpack with 3 MRE'S in it (lets say 5000 calories), and a collapsible water bottle (32 oz full). ----- 2. Where is the first place you would go? A. Try to get back home immediately (7 miles away). B. A grocery store (>1mile away did you pick money for the first one, or would you steal?). C. Bug out location, (3 Miles away, and 5 away from your house). D. The police station (>1mile away) E. See if you can help people around town. F. A nearby relatives house who may be in danger (>1m away). --------- Would you change any choice if you seen someone get shot? Would you steal a car or bike? - So yeah you might never be in this situation because of the timing and lack of supplies and etc... but lets say it does happen. - I would pick: 1. B. Your favorite pistol fully loaded but no extra ammo (concealable) Explanation- Call me Russian (im not), but a gun just feels right with me, although my second choice would be the food. 2. A. Try to get back home immediately (7 miles away). Explanation- Well, I don't personally have a BOL yet, I would consider sticking around town for my chance to get vital supplies, or I might go home and then come back. But I would go home first probably because I have no money and, well, electronics are down. If I seen someone get shot I would stick with the pistol for sure, and definitely go home immediately. I wouldn't steal a car unless it was a spur of the moment everyone's dieing situation. --------- I would love to hear your choices and explanations, this is a typical SHTF situation that I don't want to find myself in and would love to hear the options you might pick.
