    Urban Advantages?

Well, 'cos I've had a couple and felt like I'd post, I'll explain what I meant... (Or thought I meant) If you were one of the first to know that TSHHTF, or in direct line of someone who knew (scientist, military personnel, etc) and was kind enough to share, you would amass a group. By which I mean your close friends and family. (Hopefully you don't have heaps of close friends because I believe your best chances of survival is a small group) And by raid, I didn't mean, 'STORM THE PLACE, GRAB SUPPLIES! RA RA RA!' I meant tell your group, steal what you can ('cos in 24 hours noones going to care or remember), as legally, a store clerk or owner can't touch or stop you from leaving the store, allowing you to grab any extra or forgotten supplies. Hope that cleared what I meant.
  2. I studied. Hard. Learnt a few knew things, went over the basics to drill it into my core. As my siggy says, "Knowledge Is Power". Never hurts to make sure. ;D

Thanks guys, I understand what you're all saying, though it sounded better in my head. Reading all your comments made me realise what a douche I sounded like LOL. I'd attempt to explain myself, but the same would probably end up happening again. I'm stupid like that, haha.

Something I believe should be in everyone's BOB

Ah yes I see? Will definitely be an addition to my gear. Cheers, that's handy stuff!

Cool, thanks Jumbo, I hadn't thought of that. I can grab one from my local camping store, yeah? Edit: Damn, that's why I didn't think of it... The phone doesn't have a USB port. There goes my awesome idea. -.-

IMHO, there are only advantages if you're one of the first to know what's happening. You'll have more places and better chances of looting. You would amass a group of friends, loot and get the hell outta there! Becausd afterwards, there are no advantages.

Ah okay, well in that case, if you happen to keep electronics in your BOB, although taking up valuable space, a simple way to make a faraday cage would be to line the inside of your bag with a few layers of alfoil.

Thanks good advice, I have a copy of John Wisemans 'SAS Survival Guide' which I keep on me at all times. A question though, I was under the assumption that an EMP wouldn't affect devices that were switched off, yay or nay?

Thanks and true that. I believe it will be handy to come back to, just 'cos you can't be expected to remember everything. Although you should always have the basics drilled into your head.
  12. It's a phone. But not just any phone. An iPhone! Haha no, I'm kidding, I hate Apple. Not for calling loved ones or things like that, this is more suited for longterm survival where mobile plants will most likely be down which most people would then render useless... It's a Nokia 2220 slide. So here's what I believe should be included in your kit. The actual phone. A solar charger. The regular charger in case you have a genny, if not, there are plenty of uses for the wire inside. A spare battery. Here's why I think it's a good idea. On the phone, you install Opera Mini Mobile Browser and search for useful pages such as what is available on this site. You can then save the page(NOT bookmark) to the phone, enabling you to review important information any time. The phone also has other basic essentials as well, such as; time, date, calculator, stopwatch and notes. As you would all know all those things are very handy, and better yet, it's all inside a tiny phone. I chose this particular phone because I have owned it and can personally vouch that the battery life is absoloutely astounding. Also, having saved the page, you don't need internet access to view it. I admit, it barely has 10Mb, but that is plenty enough for alot of pages. I am certain that this will be of more use than perhaps previously thought. What do you guys think?

    Introduction Thread

Hi guys, I've just joined and thought I'd give a quick 'how-ya-goin' before my first real post. I'm MistiK and I've been fascinated with wilderness survival and plain living in the bush since I was quite young. I live in Aus. and grew up in Broken Hill, so I spent most of my time in the bush and have come to love it. I enjoy WSHTF novels and movies, a couple of my faves are The Tommorrow Series (Not the movie -.-), The Road (Sorry, just the movie ), Lost I thought was okay because I liked to picture myself in that situation. I suppose that's all I can think of now. Good day.
