    .410 shotshell reloading

Any tips on getting into reloading .410 shotshells at a reasonable cost? I've asked around and the usual answer is "no". I have a somewhat unusual situation though. I own a semi-auto shotgun that is real picky about shell length and diameter. The diameter issue I probably can't control other than sticking with certain factory brands/loads. What I am hoping for is to reload these shells and control OA length. Open to any and all suggestions including "live with the high cost of .410".

Backdoor option to CC in some 26 states.

Wow. I am certainly the last person to advocate any restrictions to gun ownership but this seems a little......cheesy. Sounds more like an opening for someone to make a mistake and give ammo to the anti 2A/ccw crowd. If it were up to me (and it ain't of course) I'd make firearm training mandatory or at least a school curriculum. I seldom find anything in other countries that we should copy but I really like Sweden's idea that everyone gets military training and gun ownership is mandatory for able bodied citizens. Note: NOT what Sweden calls "Gun control". Giving someone a two paragraph lecture and a multiple choice quiz does not make them ready to CC though. Just my .02.

    The Final Insanity

Funny thing is there are plenty of good rich people out there. My boss bought a company with 50 employees (making minimum wage) 12 years ago and today and today there are around 140 with even the janitors making well above local average. He gives a lot of money to charities, local community organizations and over the years he's written many a large check to employees to cover family emergencies and such. Virtually everyone tat works for him expresses their wonder at what he does for zero personal gain other than the self satisfaction of helping others. I know more like him. Many businessmen would give more back if they weren't raped by Gov't regulations, taxes and such. Unions are another issue. I won't get into a long pissing match over unions but the day they served a purpose (for the most part) is long over. Bosses said business as example. Some union thugs tried to roll in and get their mitts on the purse strings a few years ago. If he had laid down and let them take over the actual income to his employees (take home) would have dropped around 12%, his operating expenses would have gone up by at least 20% and who would have gotten that difference? Union thugs. He and I had a very lengthy discussion over this with his accountants and lawyers present. Their suggestion? Sell out, go live on the beach pocketing millions and tell everyone to %^ themselves. He didn't because he refused to leave his loyal crew hanging in the breeze. He fought and won. His employees are among the highest paid in the area, if not THE highest in that industry. Bennies out the kazoo too, that is until O-care comes in. Get Gov't out of the way, lower taxation against corporate income, drop a lot of the stifling regs (the ridiculous, ludicrous and unobtainable ones) and see jobs come pouring back in. Keep going the way we are presently and EVERYONE loses.

Danm, Why do you think companies move production overseas? What makes them do that instead of staying here? Awaiting reply. May not be able to respond for a day or so.

    Lookig for AR upper

Just thought I would throw this out there. Anyone with a low to moderately priced AR upper they want to sell? Flat top OK. No optics. Prefer 16" and 5.56. Might also consider .22LR Already have a lower, it's sitting around doing nothing so figured I'd build up one more.

Let me clarify: I'm an old married man myself. I didn't say that was what I would do, just passing ideas on to Hoss. I'm good at helping other people diig their own holes while staying well clear of the dirt pile. LOL (Just giving Hoss a hard time.) My wife, being much, MUCH smarter than me would pick that box out for what it was in less than a second. She would acknowledge it, approve of the purchase then "suggest" a stop in at the Jewelry store of her choice on the way home. Oh and probably claim it as "hers" on top of that since she's the .22 buff. Thanks for the link excoastie, I'll check it out. I got an interesting offer here locally and am going to drive over to a gent's house next weekend that is supposed to be THE area AR guru. He says he has some things I will be very interested in. (Hint hint Hoss, road trip?)

I've been around Kat. The one thing I didn't notice was her lack of common sense and cognitive skills. Your babygirl is gonna be alright Hosster. She's got an education in life that very few people will ever come close to. Plus, she loves crab claws so I know she's a superior human.

    The Final Insanity

C'mon Hoss, tell us how you really feel.................. Nothing to add here other than my worthless .02. Voting rights: How about you have to produce a W2 or 1040 showing that you've actually paid in. No dog in the hunt.......no vote. OK, allow retirees and a few other structured exceptions but if you're sitting home waiting on your freebies then stay at home on election day. No more foxes guarding the henhouse. Oh yeah, IQ tests too. Term limits: 2 terms, one in political office, one in prison. OK, old joke but absolutely, limit terms. Oh, and when you leave you don't get a huge check for life, full insurance, blah blah blah. The problem with any political office is that it's too lucrative. Maybe I'm a hopeless romantic but you should feel a need to serve your country, not your own self interests. MSM: Now here's one of the few places I believe in regulation. You should have to get a license. You can either be a certified journalist or a news reporter. All news outlets should be labeled "Fact" or "Opinion". First time a registered news reporter states an opinion, no matter how veiled, $100,000 fine with penalty getting stiffer with each subsequent infraction. Oh, and it has to be very well labeled on the screen in big enough letters so there is no mistaken ID. This is for the dumb masses. Education: This will take years but do away with teacher's unions, raise the standards and get back to one room school houses. Also, voucher, voucher, voucher. I went to public schools and did OK. My daughters went to public schools and one turned out well, in spite of it. The other is, well, see "dumb masses" above. All grandkids are enrolled in Private Christian schools. At their ages 6-12, they far, FAR surpass all of their peers in cognitive skills, critical thinking and awareness of surroundings. And this ain't just a proud grandpa talking. Most other kids I see their age are mouth breathers in comparison. Now, before anyone says anything about the "Christian" aspect of it I will expand: I consider myself a Christian but not a good one. I don't go to church often and have broken most of the ten commandments, some often, the old coveting thing comes to mind. I don't care if my grand babies grow up to be 4 times a week church goers but they WILL have a moral foundation to build their life around. I know I'm missing some points but I had a long day. Do I think we are at the end of this country? I think it is a distinct possibility. However, I do not think it's hopeless. I try not to be an unrealistic optimist but I do feel folks are waking up, maybe just not as fast as needed. When you-know-who won the election in '08 I wanted to puke. Not that I though McCain was the next Reagan, we all know he's a RINO. Even Reagan, as much as I worshiped the man, was on the wrong track in some ways. The downhill slide started way, way before him. I'd like to think that we can all look back on this era as one of a great awakening. The TEA Party may be the first in a long line of movements to get us back on track. I truly do NOT think that the majority of Americans think along the lines that "polls" (I use that term loosely and don't trust them AT ALL). I think there truly is a silent majority out there that knows things aren't right, haven't been for ages but feel hopeless. Who knows, maybe O was the best thing for this country. That's the way I felt about it the day after the '08 election. I thought to myself "Ok, give the dumb masses what they want". When his 4 years are up people will be screaming to lose that bastid and folks like him. Sometimes it takes a wakeup call (somehow Gunny Ermey banging garbage can lids together and screaming comes to mind). I do wonder if there could be some sort of civil war. That is a subject for another night. I will say though that I'm not too concerned about which side would win. Having rambled above I'll end the night by saying that if the South breaks off from the Union I nominate Hossfly for President. I know a lot of people, a LOT of people, and he's the only one I trust explicitly with my vote.

Just have the guy in Sporting Goods double wrap it and tell her it's her Christmas present and to not ask. She'll forget all about it by that time (4 months). I may buy one of those if I get a 5.56 just looking for something to fill my lower.

It's OK Hoss, it's Friday, we brushed against a hurricane and the wives have been on a roll. I'm banging on 7 out of 8 cylinders tonight myself and I have an early day tomorrow trying to keep up with my dad. They need to quit calling them Pacemakers and say what they really are: Turbochargers. F&F: Fast and Furious. You know the little event that got so many folks killed including a BP agent just to save you and I from ourselves. The plan that hopefully backfired enough to see a certain group of folks entertaining Bubba on those hot, lonely prison nights.

    .410 shotshell reloading

I appreciate the links and vid Capt. Bart! I sometimes get lazy on the search thing. I've got a buddy that has been reloading since the 70s and he would stand over me with a whip while learning. He has never loaded shotshells though, mostly rifle and some handgun. He's got a killer reloading room but is one of those that said "Not worth it". Of course he bought all of his tumblers, presses and such a long time ago and when we go to the Gun Shows he cries at the prices of new equipment. LOL If I do move forward with this I'll contribute with photos, equipment and supplies prices and most important of all I'll bare my mistakes for all to see and avoid. I'm positive that there will be plenty of those.

Made a couple of new threads tonight. Hope I'm not over using my newbie-to-this-site status but I'm getting a lot of good info and at the same time it's bringing questions to the surface that have been bugging me for a while. General election day and the day after: If this election goes the way I hope I'm reasonably certain there is going to be a lot of violence, mostly in the bigger cities such as Atlanta, LA, Detroit, Chicago and such. Am I being unreasonable, dramatic, over cautious, or, am I in the majority? Not overly concerned for myself as I live in a smaller community, somewhat removed from urban areas and populated by like-minded individuals. I intend to stay close to home base that day and for a while afterward. I am concerned about friends and family that are living in some of these larger cities. As for preparedness, can't think of much more that I can do for that situation than I already have. I'll of course keep my feelers way out, my head on a swivel and pay particularly close attention to the news and my neck hairs.

I'll have to pull it off the other PC Hoss. I can guarantee you, give her a couple of belts to get the feel of it and she would hold her own. And look really cute doing it!. On a similar note: Can you think of anything scarier that a scorned woman with access to twin .50s? Just looking at that photo sends chills up my spine. That one was taken at the waist position. Got a better one that you've never seen with her in the nose bubble over Pensacola Beach at 800 AGL. There is 200 pleasure boaters and sun bathers around here that don't know how lucky they are that the Liberty Belle's armament is deactivated.

Well Hossman, the invitation still stands. Grab the clan, run by your precincts votin' spot, do your duty and head straight over here. You know my place has the better approaches and much clearer fields of fire. We can celebrate the day at the private range down the street, go do some RCin' and eat like there's no tomorrow. Not too worried about the Panthers. They only show up where they don't matter and they don't have to worry about opposition. If they tried around here what they did in '08 they would be spanked like a naughty 4 YO girl only more screaming and dry cleaning involved. You and I are 100% on the same track politically but I don't get as much chance to hear the statistics or the pre-game interviews. At my advancing age I have to watch the old blood pressure. I know who the good guys and bad guys are though so it don't take Seanpfl long at the voting booth figuring out where to put the pencil.

    And this is illegal?. Why?.

OMG! I used a Cat 287B to re-grade my back yard. I diverted a water way from my house foundation to the road. I'm now officially a fugitive from justice. And it feels so good....................

I blame parents somewhat for breeding dummies. I'm not the smartest guy around but my folks taught by example and really focused on decision making. Hell, my dad is 82 YO and he wouldn't hesitate to reach across the table and smack sense into me today if I showed bad decision making skills. In fact looking back on my life there is at least one marriage and one business decision where I wish he would have administered some baseball bat therapy. Maybe another trait of these types is selfishness. A 'Normal" person will think at least a little about how his actions will affect others down the road. After I got married the first time and had two young kids I was still doing MX. Took a fall that kept me out of work for almost two weeks and as a result put a ding in the paycheck when money was extremely critical. I didn't even need a lecture, one look from my wife as she was writing out checks for household bills was all it took to put the bikes up for sale. I don't mean we all need to be wimps and afraid of life but there are calculated risks and then there are thoughtless risks. When a natural disaster is bearing down on you it is each person's responsibility to take care of themselves and the folks that depend on them. A lot of those folks being rescued in LA are sheeple. I know the type. I agree that it's their fault but if you knew their background you would probably sigh and say "stupid is as stupid does". As much as all of us on this forum would like to think that everyone is as capable of actually understanding what the world is about, it's dangers and the options are it just ain't so. I've met tons of people that frankly do not have, nor ever will have common sense. I wish it were different but the reality is that in bad situations you can count on a certain percent of humans just taking up space and valuable resources. Always been that way, always will.

Thank you Capt. Bart for the warm welcome! I'm having a blast catching up on my reading here as time permits. Lots to learn, don't know if I have anything useful to contribute except maybe my opinions and those are occasionally harsh. LOL Yep, perception is the key I think. "Evil looking", "black" and "assault" are all words utilized by the antis to further their agenda and scare the uneducated over to their side. I try to educate the dumb masses. As example I give you a photo of my 6 year old grand daughter with her first "black", "evil looking" "assault" weapon. (and yes, safety glasses removed for photo). Ruger 10-22 Juzcallmesnake: I'm training as fast as I can so that someday when I'm old and feeble I really can "hide behind my (grand) children". LOL

Excoastie, well written and I agree 100% We've been discussing this very subject on the local fishing/hunting forum. Quite a few active and former CG members plus all of the other branches. I think I can safely say you're opinions is mirrored by all of us on that forum. What got the discussion started was that the CG worked through Monday night searching for a lost jet skier. Guy goes out on Monday morning with Isaac bearing down. Weather well on the way to bad, surge in and waves way above normal. He was 47 years old with a wife and kids. Guess we'll never know the reason why he headed out but it's hard to think of a scenario where that was anything but a very bad plan. I'm not a trained professional but living all my life on the coast and boating being a huge part of it I do know what angry seas can do and how fast things turn to crap. When events like Isaac happen things are bad enough if everyone does what they should do. It does upset me that there are people out there that depend on others to make decisions for them or sit around wishing for the best. Life isn't fair. If it was you wouldn't hear about 1, 2 or 5 people dying trying to save one moron. Edit: Forgot to add : Thank you for your service!

As you guys may remember from the 70's through the 80's a lot of Detroit iron used polyurethane panels to close out bumper to body gaps, such as those fin type taillights on Cadillacs. I was running a large paint and body operation at the time. I had this one customer, a real gentleman farmer bring in his Caddy one day to have those plastic panels replaced. Wasn't unusual, they only lasted a few years before UV made them brittle so I had those in the shop often. I replace them and he goes on his merry way. About 4 months later her returns with those same panels all broken up like before. He's a bit mad, thinking that I had used cheap parts. I assured him that they came direct from GM and that GM would replace them under warrant, which they did. He leaves only to return a couple of weeks later with yet another set of damaged panels. He's mad, I'm mad and GM is mad. Replace the set once more. A few weeks later he pulls up into the lot. I see him coming and can also see that those panels are again shot. I mentally prepare for a confrontation. Instead he walks in and says "I figured out what's ruining those panels" and throws some photos on my desk. They're shots of his goats munching on them. GM replaced them one last time, everyone laughed about it and he installed new fencing around his house. Problem finally solved.

That's OK, I'll pass. I've dealt with plenty of the farm animals on your list. Great ideas but things haven't deteriorated to that level around here yet. If we ever get into a SHTF situation I've got the hookup on all things equine, bovine and porcine.

I tend to get POed when I hear someone us the term "assault" weapon. I've asked quite few anti-2A types to describe what an assault weapon is. I often then get the phrase "black rifle" thrown at me. Alright, what's that? To help them I'll show a photo of My Safir T-14 (AR style .410) next to my Mossberg 500. Of course they always point to the Safir. Why? "High capacity". I then point out the Mossberg holds 6 rounds and the Safir holds 5 with the mag shown in that photo. It leaves them a bit confused. I try to educate as much as possible. As for buying stamps. I don't like that idea either. My son-in-law applied/bought two this year for suppressed weapons. He just likes them and that's fine. I, however, much prefer to have my info in as few hands as possible. I've shot a couple of full auto rifles and didn't care for them. Well, I LOVE all firearms but the expense and paperwork concerns me. I agree that the prospect is expensive and without a lot of training (read expended ammo) I seriously doubt the average Joe (or Jane) could hit the broad side of a barn with one. I know I couldn't.

You have less of a fight than I do Hoss. Every time I start to open my mouth about yard work the wife gives me the stock answer: "Well, if you would let me start keeping horses again you wouldn't need to mow so often". Let's see, Mower: $1800 Fuel $about $6.00 a week. Alternate: Horses: Rough estimate $1500-$10,000 Hay : >$800/year per glue factory Misc vet bills >$2000/year per manure producer Horse trailer: ~$20,000 Dualie truck :$>$40,000 (This one I can live with due to the cool factor) Emergency room bills when one of those smartasses steps on my foot: $>$1500 Me sneaking out in the middle of the night, packed and running for the mountains to get clear of the "ranch"........ Priceless Rayz: I can't take credit for that. We locals pass that around after every near miss or over-hyped storm or as we like to call them "Cantore-teasers"
