Zombie Fiction or Something to Chew On

Oregonchick, thank you! Bill, I'm originally from Corpus Christi, and still have family there. I go down once a year to wave hi to them, then drive from What-A-Burger to What-A-Burger gorging myself on chow I just can't get up here in the northeast. Also some good Mexican food, and of course, the holy Big Red. We got through Sandy fine, though I did have to live through the onerous circumstance of not having cable TV and broadband for almost a week. I work in Lower Manhattan, and with all the subway and related mass-transit issues, I essentially got out of working for a week. Always a bonus! Will definitely resource you as a beta, but you'll be receiving essentially first draft stuff. This is likely to motivate you to put your head in a toilet, a .45 in your mouth, and fire repeatedly. By the way, the vehicle in the original cover will be replaced with these, which are a closer match to what's described in the novel...

Thank you, guys! And Bill, it sounds better if you say Steve, since we're both Texans. But if you insist, I'll refer to you as "Mister Bill" if necessary. Always happy to have another beta! Book should be finished in two weeks.

Holy thread hijack, Batman, but I wanted to run a draft of the next book cover past you guys. I'm actually going to have the vehicle replaced with some other rigs, but the general thrust will remain the same. No zombies in this one, though...only disaffected survivors of a nuclear exchange who tend to be cannibalistic.

Ha! You know, I've had people dogging me since last year about some of the members of OMEN Team retaining essential tactical skills in The Gathering Dead. But in The Rising Horde books, NO ONE calls boo about the arty bombardment! I guess I wore 'em down. Sorry I haven't been checking in, I'm writing another book and querying review sites to take some swings at my zombie books. I've also been very puzzled by why my sales are lackluster, when I see similar products rocket right out of the wrapper to the top of the various lists. Confusing! For some offbeat zombie action, check out Blackmore's Mountain Man and Safari. Hugh Howey has his new release, I, Zombie, which is extremely well-written, but very, very static. I'm not sure what to make of it--it was very good, but for folks who demand strict adherence to the zombie canon, this one won't float your boat.

Thanks to both of you! I can always use more beta readers, though reading my early stuff has been known to invoke uncontrollable retching. I understand Homeland is considering using it was a non-lethal weapon, though I wouldn't be surprised to discover that some fatalities might actually arise from its employment. Other zombie stuff... did it bother anyone that The Remaining series wasn't edited, or even proofed? I'm amazed at the business those books do, given the rather desultory quality of the versions on sale (from a grammar and mechanics perspective). Also Area 187... I've been struggling with that book for over a month. Have you guys read it, and what did you think?

Thanks for the welcome, Bill! I can't really talk about what's happening with the property as far as films go, because it's under review by some pretty heavy hitters right now. Believe me, I'm bustin' to talk about it, but I really can't. One of the guys involved is a director who's worked with Cruise, Travolta, Washington... and his older brother has a film out right now. The title is kind of... Greek. The film work has been occupying a remarkable amount of my time lately, but the next book I hope to release is a science fiction adventure called Tribes. There will be a military component to this tale, but it's not going to focus on the martial aspects all that much. And after that, I very well might get sucked back into another Gathering Dead story, either set in Singapore or in the U.S. If it's the latter, it will likely feature the further exploits of Sergeant Jorge Roche and the reconstituted 2/75. But don't hold me to it--McDaniels and even, maybe, Gartrell might come back into the fray. Tough to tell just now, since I don't even have a plot!

I'm glad you folks liked my Gathering Dead books. It's very gratifying to read some of the posts here. Thanks!
