    About a 12 gauge ...

I use the low recoil buckshot and slugs myself since I'm a small dude. Bird shot is lower recoil and cheaper of you are out shooting up water jugs or whatever. Also watch the shell length, the 3" stuff kicks like a mule. 2 3/4 is easier on the shoulder. There are also adapters that you can use to use a 20 or 410 gauge shell in a 12ga gun. You push the smaller shell in the adapter and load it all together. Gives you more options especially if you are handing one gun around for different people to use.

3 days? Gee ... Ya Think?

“The message for a lot of us needs to be, ‘Be ready for anything’,” said Battalion Chief Larry Collins. “The message used to be 72 hours, but we’ve seen in disasters like [Hurricane] Katrina, even [Hurricane] Sandy recently, that, really, if it’s wiped out your infrastructure, and your electricity grid and your communications, it will be very likely be more than three days before you start getting food, water and other supplies coming in from outside.” http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2013/03/11/residents-urged-to-prep-for-two-weeks-on-your-own-on-quake-anny/ -- I think he forgot to mention law enforcement. All I can keep flashing back on is after Hurricane Sandy the people standing out on the street 48hrs after the storm saying they were hungry and wondering where the government was to feed them. Can you imagine what L.A. would be like after a major quake?

22LR ammo shelf life & storage

The worst enemies of ammo are moisture and heat. If you can keep it cool and dry it should last for decades. I had a guy next to me at the range last weekend with a box of 'grandpa's ammo'. It was .22 so old the box was disintegrating, every one fired. This is the desert so if we can keep it cool it will last damn near forever. If there is humidity the advice above with cans and desiccant or something will help a lot. At least with damage from moisture you can usually see it, if heat is breaking down the powder you may not know until it goes click instead of boom.
  9. I'm pretty good on everything except .22. I am on several notifications for when CCI 5K bricks are available. Trouble is I spend a huge amount of time at the range and go through ammo like a baby goes through diapers. My 10/22 is dying of hunger. Here is a cool link I found to see who has what in stock online, might have been here so apologies if it's a repost. http://gunbot.net
  10. Due to the recent changes in 2nd Amendment laws that are pending or currently enforced by states across the country, the J&T Family of Companies which includes J&T Distributing, DoubleStar Corp., Ace Limited, and the DoubleStar Training Academy has been forced to reassess our policies regarding government and law enforcement sales. Effective immediately, the J&T Family of Companies will be joining other manufacturers and distributors by ceasing sales of regulated items in states that have altered the rights of citizens to keep and bear arms. The JTFOC will no longer sell prohibited items to law enforcement agencies or any government agencies in states, counties, cities, and municipalities that have enacted restrictive gun control laws against their law abiding citizens. We hope other companies will join us with their support. We applaud those already involved with this effort to protect our 2nd Amendment rights. Be Victorious

    Post Election Stampede?

I see them at the range with their new AR's shooting 10" groups at 15 yards. One guy was fighting it jamming up so I took a look, dry as a bone and filthy. I asked him when the last time he cleaned and oiled it ... "I'm going to bring it in to be cleaned soon". They scare the hell out of me to be perfectly honest.

    Sig 226

I've had one over 10 years. I have no idea how many thousands of rounds I have through it. It chows down any 9mm ammo I stuff in it and has never failed to feed or eject ... ever. Easy to take apart and reassemble, de-cock lever, single and double action, 15 rounds, nice sights, nice balance. My only gripe is being short and skinny the only way I can conceal it is with a shoulder rig.

    handgun questions

Bingo. I just hooked up someone with a .38 compact. I wanted him to have something reasonably powerful, easy to use, easy to carry, dependable and with common ammo available. The only negatives to me for this thing is recoil and range, but he is a big boy and would not be using it for deer hunting. No mags to deal with or load, no safety, buttons, latches, slides, springs, or anything else that can get a novice killed if they can't deal with it in pitch black on high adrenaline. It's easy to clean, you could wash it off in a puddle if you had to. Simple is good. The two worst things that can happen, a boom when you want a click and a click when you want a boom.
