  1. Hi Folks, Since this info is more about tactics than specific weapons I'm putting it here, but I suggest we open a new forum called Defense Tactics. In any case, I think this guy's advice makes a lot of sense on defending your home from the inside: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6qE0pDlb40 That said, I plan to work with a group and run patrols in the area so we know a threat is on it's way long before they get to our front door.... Homemade MACE

I ain't talking about the stuff that comes out of a can neither In my early teens I spent a good amount of my time with other similar boys, involved in constructive activities such as making extremely powerful improvised explosives out of gum tape and match head powder, exploding pens, hunting anything that moved with wrist-rockets and blowguns, and playing with anything having to do with fire..... One of our more socially handicapped friends had one of the largest gun collections of anyone I knew for someone under 16....He gave me my first intro into Survivalism. We all suspected he would one day bury his family in the backyard. However, this fine young man also had an interesting book collection that included such titles at the Book of Death series with sections on making poisons and home made guillotines, and the Homemade James Bond Series that gave instruction on bomb making and the like. Yes, we were really IDIOTS! Fortunately, all of us grew out of it before our 20's, some of us faster than others. Somehow, a bit of that arcane knowledge stayed with me though the years. The Homemade Mace is a good example: It's simply a tool handle sawed off to about 30", wrap the end about 4 inches down with bailing wire, pound in some big 4 penny nails and clip off the ends. Voila! Just wondering, how long to make the nails. Need to be long enough to get through clothes but not drive to far into something where it would stick and get caught. Ideas? Wolfe

    Anarchy in the USA

Hi folks, Lots of talk about mob/gang violence and anarchy in urban areas after a major SHTF but what would it look like? This video is a good prelude. I lived in CA near LA and I remember these events, my office closed because of the smoke from the burning city. Expectation were that the riots would spread to our area so the boss cut us loose..... Some folks here were kids at the time, or lived in other parts of the country. Now, just imagine same event with no cops, no fire department, and no National Guard, etc. to quiet things down..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ujoqjb1DdBs Regards, Wolfe
  4. Hi Folks, I believe that suturing is a critical medical skill I need to have not only for myself and mine, but to help others and trade as a skill. I've already watched some vids on the subject but would like to get some actual experience and further knowledge on the subject. I figure that cuts, gashes rips etc. may become a lot more common during an extended SHTF, and properly repaired skin integrity on the quick could easily save limbs and lives...... Can anybody with medical knowledge and especially medical combat experience point me towards some good resources on the net etc. about wound treatment, when to suture and when not, how to prep and sterilize the area, what tools/materials, etc. that I should stock? How can I practice it? Where could I volunteer to learn these skills? (ICU?) Much obliged. Wolfe

    A heavy concern

A heavy concern: I recently had the pleasure of coming back to the USA with the wife and kids to visit my family. It’s not the first time I’ve returned from France but I get the same feeling of shock upon arrival. I’m greeted at the airport by a virtual sea of obese people! I don’t mean just chubby either, including many teens and children. Statistically about 70% of the adult US population is over-weight including 35% obese….. Rates of obesity and overweight in the USA: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/overwt.htm Rates of obesity by country: http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/hea_obe-health-obesity Of course this means that most of the folks on this forum are also overweight or obese. Obviously, being overweight has nothing to do with anyone’s value as a person, intelligence, etc. and I know and work with many very heavy Americans that I truly respect for their skills….but it’s hard to believe anyone would choose to be obese/overweight over normal-sized and healthy. I guess my question is what the hell is going on in America from your perspective? What changed so drastically since I was a kid in the 1970s? Wolfe

"I was a paid internet shill"

Actually, I'm sure this story is legit. I would imagine shills have indeed visited this site and are probably still on it. Israel does this shilling because they need the political support of the American public to allow our government to keep favoring their political interests. Many people consider Israel our staunchest ally in the M.E. but we do not exactly have the same of trust with them as we do with Great Britain, France, Germany, etc. http://www.denverpost.com/nationworld/ci_21182746/u-s-sees-israel-no-1-spy-threat http://www.councilforthenationalinterest.org/costs/spying But in any case, the author makes a valid point: " If my arguments were so correct, I wondered, why did we have to do this in the first place? Shouldn’t truth propagate itself naturally, rather than through, well…propaganda?" Obviously, from a historical perspective the leadership of many countries have used and will continue to us spies and propaganda against their enemies, their friends and their own people to achieve political goals. Not just Israel. The CIA is the largest most well financed spy operation in the world: http://www.smashinglists.com/10-best-intelligence-agencies-in-the-world/ I think the point for the average joe is just to remain aware of shilling, learn to research things on their own, and to recognize possible shills. Max Velocity on Gun Control

Hi Matt, I would recommend getting together with some folks and training this stuff (with Airsoft or paintball). I'm looking on doing that here but it will be a challenge finding people.... Weather-wise, it's been rainy out in our parts but no snow. I need to get rolling on organizing and planting our spring garden..... How are things on your end? Wolfe

    A heavy concern

LOL! Yes, she makes me want to eat a whole bag myself! Combat stamina seems is about load carrying ability for long distances and sprints loaded down. Well, personally I integrate fitness into my daily routine. No sense wasting two-hours a day in gym..... Travel: I travel often on foot, sometimes running through airports, metros, and trains holding, lifting, dragging and carrying a 40lb+ suitcase up and down stairs, etc. Gardening/construction: I do a lot of shoveling, digging, and carrying heavy awkward objects Free weights training: I have a set of dumbbells and 150 lbs of weights. I lift them on and off, usually 6 months a year, but never more than 45mins at a time but always heavy. Have a boxing bag too that I hit on occasion with fists or a baton/stick Bicycle: I take the kids to and from school on bike and often take the bike in lieu of the car because everything in my town is no more than a 15 minute ride. I go mountain biking in the forest on occasion Surfing: during the summer I surf whenever possible. If something is missing I'd say it's the sprints with weight....other than chasing the plane or train I am late for..... That's the main stuff anyway.....I eat what I want and don't gain any weight. 14. Hi Folks, Here in France handguns, battle rifles, etc are restricted but possible to get to a limited extent by joining a gun club. I'll cover that in another thread. In any case, in a SHTF situ I can always "collect" a firearm from an attacker if I strike first. I'm considering the Fusil Arbaléte or rifle crossbow. This model is very light weight and foldable. Can also be used for hunting. http://www.couteau-store.com/PBSCProduct.asp?ItmID=9671288 Biggest disadvantages to a fire arm is you have one shot at a time and limited range, and poor stopping power; of course I'd prefer a Kalashnikov with a scope. Now for the advantages particularly at night: No muzzle flash Silent will penetrate certain body armor at closer range arrows can be dipped in shit or poison or even coated burning pitch for a fun surprise ammunition can be readily fabricated Let me know what you all think. Economics 101

Yep, the Fed is just playing a big shell game. The Germans asked for their gold back but have to wait SEVEN YEARS to get it! WHY! DeGaulle got a similar amount of the the French got their gold back in just two shiploads after WWII! Well, probably because the Fed really doesn't have much gold and must buy it on the market a little at a time. http://kingworldnews.com/kingworldnews/KWN_DailyWeb/Entries/2013/1/17_James_Turk_-_Germanys_Gold_Is_Being_Held_Hostage_1.html I mean the US is broke and hugely in dept. Would you let such and irresponsible friend keep your gold for you? I wouldn't and no longer will the krauts! LOL! Wolfe

    Pipehitters Tactical

Hi Folks, Have any of you been to Pipehitters Tactical for tactical or other training? http://pipehitterstactical.com I've met Mr. Alwood on a few occasions including here in Europe and can promise all of you he is absolutely the real deal. However, never taken any classes. I was just wondering who's taken any from this company, and what they thought of it (price/value/usefulness). Any feedback appreciated. Wolfe

    Pre-Assault Indicators

Hi Folks, Just got back from Brussels, Belgium. (One of the largest Muslim/immigrant population of any city in Europe). I traveled by train and took the Paris Metro between stations as well. Paris has lots of bad guys too, ghetto areas and the metro is always full of thugs, especially after commuting hours...Thus, it was the perfect opportunity to practice Situational Awareness. It's important to remember that most folks are just going from A to B with no bad intent. You need to be able to differentiate loud punks just talking to each other and simply rough looking people from those with truly bad intent. You need to identify suspicious behavior and especially signs of a impending aggression directed at you. This vid give great info: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBoYhgz0hes Regards, Wolf

    A heavy concern

Good for you Hoss! The idea with weight is just to get into the normal weight range, some body fat is normal and healthy. It's been said that a lot of British PT instructors dropped over during the Falklands conflict because their bodies were too lean to handle the cold. "Not all...were physically capable of enduring the long marches with heavy loads which were constant features of the Falklands War. An interesting and quite surprising occurrence was the number of physical training cadre that fell out of the marches. In garrison these cadre ran company physical training. It was determined that some of these cadre were unable to complete the force marches with such heavy loads because they were not able to maintain a high-protein diet. The British realized that the intent of physical training is not to develop professional athletes or weight lifters. The purpose of physical conditioning is to develop combat stamina". [20] More here on combat fitness, when you think about it, probably the most useful type of fitness for survival purposes. http://www.combatreform.org/apft.htm Wolfe Wolfe

    A heavy concern

Hi Ranger, Hope you are doing well there in Norway. I spent 1982 as a teenager in Danmark and everyone was amazingly thin compared to the US, especially the young folks (like myself at the time). I remember getting on the plane to Copenhangan and all the Dansk girls leaving the US complaining about how much wieght they gained, YET they were all still so slim and cute! LOL! But back in 82' hamburger places/fast food in Danmark were very rare, junkfood consisted of wienerbrot (Dansish pastries) and few drank soft drinks daily. Danes at this time just ate their traditional diet. Went back again after 22 years and WOW had things changed (for the worse)! The lesson is that where ever you are from, eat what your ancestors ate at 50 years ago and you will most likely return to a normal weight. Wolfe

Hi PSLL, I would not hesitate to take any training from Kelly or the guys he works with. However, I think you will get FAR more out of it if you study and practice on your own first, so it's not the first time you've seen the info or tried the techniques. Regards, Wolfe
  25. Hi Folks, Moving forward in expanding my Medical Skill Set. Finished the suturing course; asked the local doctor to check my work and acknowledge what I've learned. He also knows that I'm available to help in an emergency. I also ordered the book Doom & Bloom and will give my review of it on this site. I was highly impressed by the suturing course and so I ordered and just received my new course on Examining Patients. I will begin studying it this week. I will let you all know what I think about it with updates to this thread. Regards, Wolfe
