Danm got a reaction from jackalope in What's your Go-To machete?
Got the Kabar Kurki today. a few initial impressions; it looks good and feels even better in my hand. Even though I am a big guy, my hands are not especially big. The grip on this fits me exceptionally well. It was OK sharp but with just a little effort it became wicked sharp. I plan on changing some of the edge angles but it is pretty pleasing as is with a 20 degree grind angle. I am going to widen the edge near the point to 22 to 25 degrees and shallow the angle near the grip to 16 to 18 degrees. The middle so far is about right.

I went out for a little woods walk and tried it on various plants. It goes through pine really easy and would have little trouble falling pines up to about a foot in diameter. It would take more work than an ax but not so much that I couldn't do it pretty efficiently. On hardwoods like hickory and such it is fine for smaller trees say up to maybe 6 inches. On the small stuff like limbs and weeds it is brutal once you get used to the Kurki feel and stop[ putting too much arm into it. Things up to about and inch are one stroke slashes in soft woods and almost as effective on hardwoods.

I actually like the sheath. I will no doubt reinforce it in the stress areas but in the end if it doesn't hold up I'll just make on a lot like it out of 7/8 leather. I seldom fail to make a sheath for most of my stuff if I don't like the one it came with. My Ontario latin machete has a pretty leather home with my name on it and basket weave. The sheath that came with it has a D ring on the top that the belt loop is on and this seems to make it move with me very well and makes carrying it real nice. I added a tie down cord to the bottom and it is fine for now.

I got it from Amazon for a little under 43 dollars with free 2 day shipping so the price is about right. With the Kabar Kurki, a Kabar short army style knife, a Kabar neck knife, Cold Steel Trail Hawk and my Victornox Trecker I think I will be well serve for edged tools. I also have a Saw-N-A-Can that will go along too. The kurki will do what a machete and hatchet will do plus can do duty as an emergency trenching tool.

So far I'm pretty happy with iot but will give it a real work out this fall feeding my Chimenea fireplace and my Rocket stove. That will tell me a lot. The Rocket stove requires smaller split kindling type wood so I'll be chopping and probably using a baton to split the wood. More to come as I modify it and work it over...

An armed society SHOULD be a more polite society. I think awards should be offered for shooting a felon caught in the process of committing a crime and wouldn't really be bothered by a law making gross rudeness a justifiable cause for use of lethal force. Pass those laws and soon Texas would be a very polite and friendly place.

Like you I've lived all over Texas. I'm a true 5th generation Texican in that my Family was here before Texas was a nation or a part of the USA and were Mexican citizens at one point.. We lived in West Texas when I was little and the dust storms out there were very memorable. South of Dallas where I was born, as you say, the cracks in that black gumbo get wide enough to break a leg in. I was raised in the swamps around Beaumont and have been through the eye of three hurricanes. I've seen from 0 to 117 degree temps and watched a thermometer drop from 82 to 36 in about 15 minutes. THAT is how fast you can go from Indian Summer in the fall to the dead of winter.

In the last 5 years I've seen drought that killed almost all of the pine trees around me and made fires a daily worry and event. I got up each morning and checked to see where the fires were around me. Thousands of acres burned. This year we have had floods almost continuously. The thing that is odd this year was that all three of the major metropoliton areas were flooding at the same time. Dallas/Ft. Worth, San Antonio/Austin, and the Houston/Galveston areas ALL flooding over and over. For those of you not familiar with Texas, it is a BIG place and these areas are not at all close together and generally are not all hit at the same time by weather patterns.

Between floods I worked for a nice older gentleman and his wife they had been totally isolated for a little over a month. They live on a slight hill in a Riverside subdivision. The roads were three feet deep all around them. Boats only to get to them. They are now isolated again and have been for about another month. At least they aren't lonely. When you are on the only dry land in several thousand acres of flooded timber and pastures you get a lot of visitors. He said that one morning he looked out and there were just dozens of snakes on the cement of his car port. Bunnies and wood rats were running everywhere and you never knew what you might see chasing them.

Texas weather has always been mercurial but the last five years have gone way over the top!!

t2949, I'm not necessarily a proponent for fracking BUT, before you get too excited you need to do some SERIOUS research. What that means is that you don't just read the articals all about the horrors of something, you need to find out who wrote that article, who paid for the research and what are the motivations behind it.

American science these days is mostly like the sincere love and affection that a good whore might offer. If you will give them the money they will design and do a study that will give you the results that you paid for. All the stuff that you hear about some artificial sweeteners... the research was paid for by the people that grow the plants, make and sell sugar. Of course those results come out the way they were paid to reflect. Remember, or maybe not I'm an old fart, when they threw a fit about saccharin. It was the first artificial sweetener that was widely used commercially. It was PROVEN to cause cancer in rats and came close to being banned. It was allowed to be used because it offered diabetics a lot of help but the warnings on it were even more graphic than what they put on cigarettes.

A few years ago they reexamined those results and the methodology of the testing...Yes indeed it caused the rats to have cancer...it would do the same to a person too...if they ate a chunk of it the size of a common brick every day for a long time. The problems didn't show up until the amount that they were feeding the rats became insane!

There was a government study done years ago that proved that marijuana was a killer. They did everything they cound and when nothing seemed to cause a problem they basically put the apes head in a box and filled it with pot smoke until it died of smoke inhalation. Presto!! The government had their proof that pot is deadly!!!

Remember a few years ago when we were all going to die from UV because freon was destroying our ozone layer??? That cost America and Americans 500 Billion dollars to eliminate the awful freon. For a while R-12 was the most smuggled substance even above pot and cocaine. THINK, when was the last time you heard anything about this crap... You WON'T hear about it again because it NEVER existed in the way that they presented it.

I remember when it was a new ice-age that we were facing! What you need to understand is that there is BIG money in bad news!! If you have a lab and go out and say everything is WONDERFUL, give me a few billion bucks so I can figure out just how wonderful it IS. How much money do you think that they will get? But if you come out with an exaggerated end of the world hypothesis based on some VERY questionable science it is different. The media people love that sort of thing so it will get a lot of coverage, idiots will panic and demand that the Government do something and the money will flow like a river.

I'm personally not sure about fracking BUT I can tell you already that a lot of what the rigid anti-fracking people are putting out is crap. Yes, fracking in Oklahoma may indeed have caused an increase in earthquakes. Fracking loosens things up in the deep substrata. The thing is though that NONE of those QUAKES were really quakes. They were tremors and most were not detectable by most folks. All the chemicals that they are using that are carcinogens are also under the counter in most peoples homes. The air pollution they talk about is most;y related to the diesel engines used on the rigs and the generators. REALLY!!!! The water polution is nearly totally a myth. These wells are WAY below the water table and the geology that makes fracking work also makes sure that the water put in that they don't get back STAYS where it is. If the formation was porus to start with you wouldn't need to frack!

I have a lot of questions about fracking and as someone that was raised in oil country and been involved in it on several levels over the years I assure you that my trust for oil companies is even lower than my trust of the paid for a preplanned result science we practice here.

As far as using oil for fuel, that is INSANITY!! It is far to valuable to just burn. It is a little like heating your house by burning dollar bills!!! Look around you. How much of what you see is plastic? The uses for oil are so numerous that it is just almost a sin to just burn it and that doesn't even include the carbon dioxide it releases that has some long term effects... some may be bad and some may be good but you just never know. I do know one thing, I would rather have global warming than another ice-age. New York would have hell opperating under a mile of ice!!! Besides, I don't like snow that much.

Danm got a reaction from Drew_Forge in Making Gun Power with Household Items.
Black powder is an explosive. It DETONATES. Smokeless powder is NOT an explosive and burns at a specific rate. That is why you use different powders for different kinds of loads and guns. A handgun has a short barrel and smaller cartridges so the powder for loading those rounds is a fast burning powder. Shotguns have long barrels and big cases so their powder is usually a little slower burning. Each specific powder is a TOTALLY different speed of burn and creates pressure in a slightly different way. As the pressure builds the powder burns faster and as it burns the pressure builds.

Black powder goes boom and pretty fast the pressure is gone but there for an instant it was HIGH! I have reloaded for decades and it is a safe hobby as long as you know what you are doing and stay alert. Hey a friend of mines Mama broke a persons leg with a bowling ball when she lost it on the back swing. You do NOT eat greasy french fries while you bowl! Life has its dangers and actually reloading is probably as safe as most hobbies.

The smokeless powder isn't very dangerous at all. The primers are explosive though and need to be handled in small quantities and with respect. If you put it in an ashtray when someone puts a cigarette out in it they start a fire. It does not explode or even burn all that fast since it can't develop pressure in open air. It only makes pressure when it is contained in something fairly strong. You can not make firecrackers with smokeless gunpowder.

I made black powder when I was a kid. It is no big deal and wasn't all that powerful really. I suspect that we didn't have the mix exactly right...not enough saltpeter probably. There might be a few occasions where I had use for some black powder but if I'm going to have to store the separate powdered parts I would rather just store the powder already made.

There are actually several different recipes for powder that you can make to charge a firearm. The old charcoal, saltpeter and sulfur combo is but one that was used over the centuries. NONE of them are smokeless powder and making smokeless powder is not something that you make in a home lab much less a kitchen.

I hate to think of what black powder would do to the gas system of a modern automatic weapon. Even if you didn't blow your gun up you would probably ruin it in no time at all. You CAN load black powder in cartridges for revolvers and rifles. It was used commonly until 1894. A 45-70 was a 45 calaber bullet on top of 70 grains of black powder. Ditto for the 50-110, 38-40, 32-20 and all the other old loads. Even the old 45 long colt was originally a black powder round. The first one that was NOT this way was the 30-30. That was the first commercially made smokeless round.

The pistol thing is an old military bull$h!t thing like calling your weapon a gun.( You know...This is my weapon...this is my gun...this is for fighting...this is for fun!!! As you hold your crotch with your left hand and your weapon in your right.) The fact is if you want to call your revolver a pistol I have no problem with that and will know what you are saying just like I know that your M-16 can be a "gun" in the basic sense of the word. I'm not real big on PC crap or playing vocabulary games.

If I was limited to one 22 rifle if would be a Ruger 10-22. It is a fairly short rifle and extremely adaptable with all sorts of after market accessories. All Rifles are required to have barrels over 16" If the barrel is shorter than 16" it can't have a stock because it is a pistol.

A semiautomatic rifle can fill more roles than a bolt action. My Ruger 10-22 is more accurate than I am capable of using except over sand bags.  With a scope head shots on squirrels is right there for you if you do your part. There are also a lot of youth sized rifles out there these days and for smaller folks these might be right for you.

Another 22 LR that is a lot of fun is the little Henry 22 lever action carbine. I love mine and the kids like it a lot as well so smaller size works well for them.

The other day I helped a friend design, tool and sew up an old school Black Jack slap. It got me to thinking about some of the simple weapons that have mostly been forgotten or over looked by most folks these days. Because of the many years my wife worked in prison I've heard of their various “homemade” weaponry.

The most common and deadly is the old lock in a sock or whatever you have that is heavy stuck in a cloth that will hold it so you can swing it like a mace. In the centuries past they even made these up ahead of time and used them like a sling and threw the entire thing. With a two pound rock you can do unbelievable damage when thrown from near distance. Inmates regularly kill with something in a sock. If you just want to beat the hell out of someone a bar of soap in painful with only minimal chance of killing someone.

You can sharpen the edge of a credit card or and high density plastic and slice tomatoes with it...or cut someones throat if needed. Plastic is a deadly tool. They used to let the inmated have regular toothbrushes and dental floss. To many of them ended up stuck in someone and the floss braided and used as a garrote. Now they get flossers and little tooth brushes that slip on the end of your finger. I've actually done the credit card thing and believe me it is SHARP! I have an older Lansky Letter Opener it is just a plastic double edges dagger that you can drive through a piece of ½” plywood.

Paper can be rolled up like a long slender cone and with starch turned into a danm spear!!! It won't pierce a flack jacket but it will go through a regular shirt and a light coat or pants! You wouldn't believe the stuff inmates can make out of paper!!

If you don't have pepper spry...use pickled jalapeno peppers! In my youth I carried a jar of them in my candy apple red 56 Chevy. Put one in each hand and just slap the hell out of a couple of guys and then throw what is left at anyone left standing. If you get it in their face the fight is OVER!! WARNING, do NOT think that washing your hands with soap will get this off your hands and then go to the bathroom!!!! BAAAD VERY VERY BAD!!!

There Are no dangerous weapons out there; JUST dangerous men and they are dangerous even if they are butt naked. The mind is your arsenal if you keep it stocked you can never be unarmed.

Danm got a reaction from Brantfat in Survival other than personal
Survival has a lot of meanings to all sort of different people. I would like to offer you a different thought about it. Here, we are normally talking about personal survival. The survival of the individual and that persons family and near associates is about threat assessment and how to respond to the various threats that could arise. To most average people, and all sheeple, the entire thing is actually pretty depressing. It means the death of many, the breakdown of our system and most likely a period of unknown length of chaos and loss of our much loved creature comforts.

You know, it is a troubling thought BUT... There is also cultural survival. When you look at societal breakdown I look at it sort of like an infection. If a little finger gets an infection that you can't cure or stop sometimes it has to be removed or the entire body will die. The infection isn't just hurting your pinky finger. It is poisoning your entire body and slowly dragging you down. While losing your finger is sad and depressing, the thought of your body healing and your strength coming back is far from depressing. It will even be painful to lose a finger BUT for the good of all it has to go.

I think that our culture has reached that sort of point. The small corruptions are slowly poisoning the entire thing. Let's face it; when it is even questionable whether or not a cop has the right to defend himself or herself from bodily attack or armed attack if the attacker is black we are in SERIOUS trouble!!! The problem is NOT black people!!! The problem is that our government is using the lowest elements of their race as a distraction to keep us divided.

There are bad, ignorant and stupid people of ALL races out there. I was raised in KKK Kuntry and believe my trash is trash no matter what the color of the skin! What is happening is that the Government through their controlled media is making it SEEM as if we, the white majority are under attack and helpless because if you defend yourself in most places North of the Mason/Dixon line and now days almost anyplace except Texas you may be prosecuted. If your state won't do it the feds will hit you with a civil rights suit!

At the same time the black folks are being told that the cops and most white folks are out to kill them and are killing their poor unarmed kids left and right. The media CREATES these stories just like they created the problem in Ferguson. They ONLY interviewed the people that were wailing that the thug had his hands up and was shot in the back. The FACT was he was charging the cop and the cop was either going to shoot him or DIE. That was one BIG strong jacked up crazy who had already tried to pull him out of his car window by his throat. The cop KNEW that he couldn't take him on just with his bare hands.

After the fact...LONG after the fact, on the back pages of the print media it came out t hat NONE of the people telling the cops and media all about him being shot in the back with his hands over his head were even THERE at the time. The people, mostly black people that were there told a different story that was fully backed up by the forensic evidence...NO holes in the back...NONE. The entire thing was a fabricated tale created by the media.

The terrible racial motivated killing in Baltimore...of the five cops the prosecutor is after, three are black and the Sargent in charge was a black lady officer. Now how in the hell is THAT racial?? Obummer is trying to tear this country apart and the Republican party is right in there with him cheering it on and helping all they can.

They problem is not the people of this country. The government in Washington is an infected corruption on the butt of America. The entire establishment, both Democrats and Republicans no longer consider themselves as Americans first. They are parasites that FEED on America and that is where their entire allegiance lays...to their party first and the system second! They are near the terminal point and are preparing to dump the farcical crud and just declare the constitution invalid and divvy the country up into fiefdoms. The United STATES of America died at the end of the civil war. The REPUBLIC of America is in ICU and sinking fast. Presidents now openly flaunt their ability to RULE above and outside of the constitution.

The constitutional reality is that the President actually was meant to have almost NO individual authority. He can't introduce a bill and only has an active roll when both the House and Senate have passed it. Then he can either sign or veto it. The closest the Pres gets is when he PROPOSES a budget. Now Obama and even a non-president Hillary are moving into MAKING laws by Presidential decree.

I'm sorry but I look at some form of total disaster as the only hope that America has left. The great experiment of Democracy is a failure and capitalism has run wild. The founding Fathers NEVER intended for people that couldn't support themselves to have a vote. The opinion of even twenty idiots on welfare is NOT as good as the opinion of ONE successful wise person!!! In the beginning you had to own property to vote... now you don't even need to have an ID or a birth certificate!!!!

Capitalism worked until the wealth became personal instead of corporate. It used to be a rich person made a gizillion dollars and then RE-invested it back into the corporation because the personal tax rates were 75% and UP!!!! Sam Walton became the richest man in the world paying 75% + income tax. Romney, when he was running for office paid a lower total percentage tax rate than I did! Asset based wealth means JOBS for Americans while personal wealth means trillionaires and unemployment for working people. Why NOT dump your American workers and move your factories to China?? Over there you pay a $1.24 an hour, no retirement, no matching Social security and a factory is a big building with a bucket in each corner and a roll of toilet paper for “facilities. You dump the poison out in the river or into the air, there is no OSHA, no EPA and no labor laws to worry about.

Without the manufacturing base we HAD, WW2 would have been a SHORT and very bad ending war and we would all be speaking German but not on this. Without a working rail system we can't even move enough stuff from coast to coast to fight a real war. America now has lots and lots of billionaires and some say one trillionaire. What we don't have is the ability to fight and win a war of any true size short of turning the world into a glow in the dark ornament with no advanced life forms.

Our only hope is some sort of world wide disaster that will again make survival a matter of intelligence and judgment and not only for fast breeders that won't or can't work so just sit back and breed like rats. It also has to happen before someone else decides to come here and TAKE what we have away from us or our own government does it too us.

Too me TEOTWAWKI is about the only chance or hope our culture has left...

Danm got a reaction from Brantfat in Improvised Weapons

An old Green Beret that I used to hang out and fish with. He was part of the first batch that JFK was responsible for when the green benies were first designated as the OFFICIAL wear of the 10th Special Forces group at Fort Brag on October 12th 1961 and made official in April 11 1962. Anyway he told me that one mistake that people make is defining dangerous people by the weapons that they possess.

Danm got a reaction from Deriksler in Adapting
    Adapting

The biggest challenge for a modern person suddenly thrown into a primitive survival situation is the mental changes. The thing that makes it all sooooo hard for us is going to be throwing out the ideas and training of the culture we were raised in. Many, maybe most at first will die because of an inability to adapt quickly enough.

A quick list of a few non-valid ideas that we have that aren't true in a primitive world. Bigger is better. Get it done in a hurry. Food is for fun and entertainment...every meal! You only eat the RIGHT things with right being based on what you ate before. HURRY!!!! Farming is HARD Brutal work. It is hard to find catch and kill wild game. A person is innocent until proven guilty.

Big is most often a total waste of time. A small shelter isn't as good as a bigger shelter is the first thing you have to dump. The shelter is only there for you to sleep in, get out of the rain, and dry store a few things. You will not usually live in it. The world is your living room. The only exception is in the winters in the COLD Snow Country and there, smaller is a LOT better because it will be easier to keep warm.

A big gun is nice if you are in Bear country but most of the time a 22lr is better. If you think that you need a little more power think about maybe a carbine in a pistol caliber. My Winchester Trapper 357 mag will drop anything in the area where I live and the same in 44mag will drop a Moose! Lighter ammo, easy reloading with a simple loading system. Less lead used.

Hunting and fishing is hard only when you are hunting and fishing using the rules of legal and sportsman like styles. You just don't actually hunt anything much more than a little bird. I will shoot those with a BB gun for little one pot stews if I'm on the move. You do not roast them over an open fire if you need the food. The juice that you see dripping out is the fat and the important fluids that have most of the true value in things you catch for a quick meal. A pot keeps it all and with a few roots, herbs and such can be very tasty!

Instead of hunting and fishing you make and use traps. For deer aircraft cable snares over the trails then have a drive to rush the deer into these traps. Carry a LOOONG spear to cut their throats with. It is quieter and saves the bullet. Fish are easy to trap. Hoop nets and box traps are so effective that they are illegal in most places. If it is against the law you need to learn about it!! Spotlighting makes a lot of wary critters easy pickings. I had an old time telephone generator for many years and they work well for “calling “ the fish up. Crushed black walnuts work well too. Put them in a sack, crush them and throw them into a pool of still water. The fish will come up in a half hour or so.

A lot of things that we think of as quick fixes or nearly instant gratification cease to be so when you can't go to Walmart and just buy one. Clothes are a good example. There are LOTS of similar things. Making and sewing cloth is a massively time consuming thing when you don't have machines doing most of the boring repetitive work! Digging a well is NOT a one day job even if you know how to do it. Lots of things that we do in minutes will become long boing exercises in manual labor.

Food, farming and gardening are one of the few places where it is actually easier than people think...ONCE they learn that growing food for you and your family to eat is a lot easier than farming for profit. Can you possibly imagine how much corn you have to grow and sell to pay for a tractor or a house or a car???? Most gardens are a joke in the survival sense. Sorry people but radishes, lettuce, peppers, greens, cabbage and tomatoes are mostly a waste of time if you want to feed your family. Lots of work for VERY few calories. You want to grow corn, beans, peas, squash, potatoes, yams and such are what you need to spend most of your efforts on. The rest is for spice and taste like onions, peppers, garlic, tomatoes, and such is called a kitchen garden. Fruit and nut trees are also good but you just don't need 40 acres to feed your family.

You will need to eat to live and give up the live to eat mentality that we have now. Feasts where you eat all you can or could ever want are SPECIAL occasions. You will need to learn the difference between hunger and appetite. We are trained to “feel like we need to eat at least three times a day at certain times. At those times we “feel” something but it really isn't hunger. Very few Americans have EVER actually felt hunger.

Charity is a wonderful thing...IF you can afford it. If you can't then you could be killing your family with your kindness. Unfortunately in a world of survival of the fittest, the nice don't get extra credit. You will have to get a lot better at judging the good from the bad and the worthwhile from the worthless. Honor will become a serious thing again. Understand, if someone steals from you they will probably kill you if you have something that they think they need or maybe even just want. If I catch you stealing my food from my garden patch you will be fertilizing it tomorrow. If you ask for it and I have it to give I will give it but if you steal you are a waste of the food you stole.

Primitive people lived a very quiet and subtle life. They wasted very little and probably didn't average 4 hours a day doing what we see as hard work. BUT when they were not working in the garden, hunting, fishing or things like that they WERE nonetheless doing things that were important. They would sit in the shade together in the heat of the day and chat while they made little things that were not hard work but were time consuming. What you need to understand is that for them this was not work. They didn't have TV, Radios or outside based entertainment. While their hands were busy the were also bonding and having a pretty good time.

When I was a kid I used to love this sort of thing. Example...Before you can can you have to prepare the stuff. Beans and peas have to be shelled. Corn needs to be shucked and silked, Tomatoes may need to be blanched and pealed...things like that. We did this sort of thing as a group. We would sit under the live oaks and spend most of the day talking and listening to the older folks tell stories. The stories are what you might call our clan heritage. These people were raised and lived in a world that was totally different from now. If you wanted to go to town you walked, rode a horse or went in a wagon/buggy. You hunted for food NOT sport. I learned so much of what I know about life, honor and how to be self sufficient at the feet of my elders. These times were a combination of entertainment, education, bonding into the clan, play (water wars could happen at any moment!) with just a little nimble fingered work thrown in.

The hardest part for people raise in our current culture will be the slow down that is necessary. How often have you heard primitive people perceived as lazy or at least not very ambitious? I know now days it isn't politically correct but that is still the way people that live in primitive conditions are perceived. They go slow for several reasons. First when all you need is enough food to eat for a few days, a few basic clothes, some sort of roof over your head and maybe a little water how much time does it take to provide that in normal times?

A day has 24 hours. You need to do 4 hours of work at the MOST to provide these on average...What do you do with the rest of the day?? Gathering and storing more food is a waste. With the limited available ways to preserve food why store more than you can eat before it spoils. Without modern medicine any and every injury no matter how small could kill you! Survival sometimes means doing less and not more. You will need to learn a new way to perceive your life cost/risk versus profit decisions.

Boredom KILLS. All work and no play does more than just make Jack a dull boy. You will have to learn new ways to protect yourself from boredom. You will have to MAKE your own entertainment. Kids are going to suffer the worst at first. Kids don't play the way that they used to. You will need to teach them how to play. It doesn't take much imagination to watch a machine do things. Look at how complex toys are today. Is a Barbie doll with a house, car, more clothes than most people really “better” than a rag doll that a child had filled with feelings and that can talk to them about important things and play the things that the child wants to play? Toys these days are bossy! I assure you, My Teddy Bear was more than just a toy. He was my very best friend. He was the one that was there when I was afraid, lonely and was always on MY side when my parents and other friends were mean.

When was the last time you saw a kid with an imaginary friend. My daughter had two and for several years you had to be careful where you sat. We also learned that you had to make sure that they didn't come with us when we went out. They were bad little kids and would get my daughter in trouble. Their not at home manners just were NOT up to public places!

Danm got a reaction from Brantfat in Improvised Weapons

I'm sorry, I'm not Mary Poppins I see ugly and just call it ugly...

I'm sorry, I'm not Mary Poppins I see ugly and just call it ugly...

Life is led between your ears. When the outside changes the inside HAS to adapt or else. Start thinking about it now and offering your kids a little help at learning to make their own toys and how to invest those toys with life and personalities

Danm got a reaction from Brantfat in Improvised Weapons

There Are no dangerous weapons out there; JUST dangerous men and they are dangerous even if they are butt naked. The mind is your arsenal if you keep it stocked you can never be unarmed.

When something goes BAD the can will swell up. I carry THOSE carefully out back and then shoot them from a safe distance! If the can/package isn't obviously deteriorated I use the sniff and taste off the tip of my finger method and then if it smells good and tastes like it should I COOK it. To tell the truth I was eating C and K rations that were no telling how old all the time when I was young. I carried a case of them in my camper and never had a problem with any of them. Some of them were WW2 surplus and some were Korean War surplus. Let me put it like this. The older ones had Lucky Strike or Camel non-filter 4 pack of cigarettes in the accessory pack and the newer ones had Marlboro’s or Winston's Cigs and the case lots came with P-38s. I was eating them in the mid 60s.through the early 70s.You could get them for 60 to 75 cents a ration at the GI Surplus Store. They were actually pretty good too. Not fancy nor light but just good home-style cooking in a can.

I really do like the 7.62X39. It is a good compromise between the 5.56 and the .308/7.62X51. The 5.56 is just too weak and the 308 is just a little more than you need to get the job done. As far as the Glocks I like the 23 in 40S&W with a 357 sig barrel. I've done this and you can use the same mags and everything if you just swap the barrels. I am not all that fond of the 40 S&W. It isn't enough better than the 9mm to make it worthwhile. I do like the 357 Sig but would want the 40 S&W because it is more commonly used.

The 10mm is a little better than the 40 S&W, quite a bit better than the 9mm but not quite as good as the 45 ACP especially in a +P load. As long as you have plenty of Ammo on hand most of its flaws are not a big deal. When they first came out with the various 10 mm I was really excited but in the end they settled for weaker rounds than I liked. I wanted an automatic with the stopping power between that of a 357 mag and a 41 mag. The Bren 10 was nearly perfect. I think that I'm just not as recoil sensitive as most. I loved the 41 mag. It was actually designed specifically for police work but it was a little too much for a lot of people and so died on the vine as did the Bren 10 for the same reason.

I guess that is the reason that I never went totally in for the auto pistols. I would rather have 6 shots that will each take a man down than 13 to 17 that might let him shoot me before he was down. Each to their own depending on their talents and experiences. There was a point in time where I shot several thousand rounds of 357 a month. That sort of leads to a comfort level that most people don't have with a particular weapon or round. Ya know what I mean?

I never cared much for bigots. I used to go stomp a few kluckers when I was feeling a little down. When they kill your kids I suppose you won't give a rats ass about that either. Supporting the actions of a weak tit terrorist makes you no better than him.

I am an AMERICAN. If you attack Americans you are my enemy. Whether I like or approve of you, I will defend to the death your right to live and live in peace as long as you are willing to do the same for other Americans. That means I don't CARE  if you are Black, White, Red Yellow, Brown or Purple. You can be a Christian, a Jew, A Muslim, a Buddhist, a Hindu or an Atheist. I don't care who you sleep with or what you like to dress in. If I stand by and let ONE person or group be dragged down then I have betrayed my forefathers who have fought and in some cases died so that I  can be free.

Bigots, Nazis, Islamic Radicals or Christian Radicals and any others who will support ANY form of final solution for others because they are different deserve nothing more than a wire noose just as the Nazis got after the Nuremberg trials.
