I definitely will; thank you! I still want to know whose brilliant idea was it to make 2 cartridges the same size, and make the requirements different?!
-
I don't know that I'll keep it forever; but people are usually firmly on one side of the fence, and I wanted to try it and figure out what caused so much fighting!
-
No, you're right, and that was a reminder I needed. Thanks!

Thank you for all the help guys! Academy is where I've been looking primarily. I wanted to wait until some of the madness went away, but now I'm starting to look. What do you mean by "copies"? Would Wyndham be considered one? I know Academy carries some ~$700-800 Wyndhams, but I knew a forum was a good place to ask for people who wouldn't give "profit-motivated advice". I'm interested in avoiding the manufacturer mentioned above. If you can't mention a brand name, can you tell me how to find it? I'm very sorry to hear that. Maybe one day, you'll be able to save enough to "replace" them.

I'm brand new to the AR world, so I would like to buy it intact, learn about it, and maybe build one in the future. I do not see myself upgrading this one, so I'd like to get a good one the first time. I'm looking to spend about $700 - $800. With that said, I won't be swimming any rivers with it, but I do want one that will last. Lately, I've heard some good things about Wyndhams, but I've only talked to people who were selling them, so I'm not sure they're unbiased. I also heard someone say that DPMS AR parts are slightly out of spec, so they work great as long as you don't mix parts from other manufacturer's. Does anyone know if this is true or not? Any recommendations for or against certain models, or even just manufacturers would be appreciated! Thanks!

I will contact them. Thanks!

I have heard that the barrel ring screws can be threaded backwards. Before I try to take this off, I want to make sure the barrel isn't. Turning the barrel counter-clockwise loosens it, right?
-
I will definitely try this. I tried googling it yesterday to see if I could find how to remove the barrel. Thank you so much!

I just recently got a 91/30, and I've taken out almost all the parts. The receiver/barrel are going to be by far the hardest to clean. Is there a way to separate the barrel from the receiver? They look like they separate, but I can't seem to get it to move just by twisting it. The chamber is so far inside the receiver that I'm having trouble getting it clean. I see that a lot of people try soaking the whole thing in brake fluid or mineral spirits, but I kind of hate to go that far. I'd like to do as much cleaning by hand as I can, but I really need to get them separated. What do ya'll think?

I know that the diameter difference between a .22 and a .223 is very small, but do I need to find an adapter made specifically for .22? Also, are there other attachment methods that allow me to keep the front sight on on my 10/22 (also without scratching the finish)?
-
I'm interested in shooting some blanks through a 10/22. The way I understand it, you must have a blank firing adapter on the end if you want the rounds to cycle in a semi-auto. I have not been able to find an adapter for a .22. Does anyone know of one, and would my barrel have to be threaded to use it? Thanks!

I bought some pool shock today, and I'm wondering if anyone has any clue if it's safe. It's only active ingredient is 73% calcium hypochlorite. It also contains <3% calcium chlorate, <2% calcium carbonate, <2% calcium hydroxide, 0-0.8% lanthanum carbonate. (I realize that leaves some percentages unaccounted for, but that's what it says.) Does anyone know if these are toxic or not? It's this stuff: http://www.lesliespool.com/Home/Pool-Chemicals/Pool-Shock/14183.html
