Ok Excoastie, After some research and heavy cramming, here's the way I see it. I'll try to explain it as it sounds in my head, but no guarantees.. I agree that it is directly written in the Constitution, but that only guarantess that the federal govt can not infringe on the right. Here's where I go off on a tangent though. The Free States, each a nation itself, joined to the others in a mutual covenant to form the Federal govt and draft the Constitution. Each state also drafted it's own Constitution, most in the image of the federal one. Wouldn't that mean that each State is the authority to control what happens in it's own borders? Each State sets it's own tax rates, Mass. now has it's own state medical care, other states recognize gay marriage, Illinois denies gun rights. I agree that all persons should have the right to defend themselves and it seems that the 2nd confirms that right, but it only speaks as to what the Federal govt can not take away. It's not the way I'd like it to be, but I can't understand it any other way right now. I'd like to be able to keep and bear and carry and conceal just because the 2nd says it is my right, but it only says the Fed can't infring upon it, not the states. After reading this through 3 or 4 times, it sounds like a ramble. Didn't come out like it was in my head. It also makes me sound like some kind of secessionist, which I'm not, but I could be convinced to try it.

    The Walking Dead

That actor was on The Talking Dead after the 2nd showing.. Pretty cool guy. Wish he could have stuck around the show a bit longer, but I guess Rick needed a sacrificial victom to show his growth as a leader who'll do anything to pretect the group.

I almost brought that up last night but my mind couldn't form a coherent sentence. I do agree that the constitution guarantees the right, but I've always believed that the states were intended to be the superior power as to what goes on in their own jurisdiction. Maybe we're feeling the same way and I'm not thinking it through right. Probably time for some more reading on my part. federalist papers anyone? I'm sure it's probably talked about in one of them but no clue which. I'll get back to you on this one, but I'd like to hear other opinions if anybody cares to throw them out here.

  5. Don't tease me Rod! I say a prayer every day for more frogs that'll eat the skeeters. Alabama skeeters have teeth! Then I'll only have to find something to eat the ants. Alabama ants have tusks!

Zombie Fiction or Something to Chew On

To this day, I still think Velma was sexier than Daphne... Sure, Daphne was cute and all, but Velma could carry on a conversation...and build the perfect BOL/super high tech clubhouse! I REALLY need to go to sleep.. Which cartoon character is sexier? I've sunk to a new low in my insomniac world!

Well, while thinking on things (and watching Smokey & the Bandit again), I see that my general idea was stated much simpler by Navyvet. GO NAVY! LoL Too much federal power is what it boils down to.

I'm all for every citizen (non criminal types) to be allowed to carry a weapon, but I'm not for a national concealed carry law. It sounds good until you think more about it. "The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" by the Federal govt. If we give the govt the ability to LET us carry, what's to stop them from infringing on that right in the future? The more authority we give up to the federal govt, even though it looks like we're getting more rights, the more authority the federal govt can use to take away our freedoms. I still think it should come down to a State's Rights issue. As originally intended, the states were free and independant nations, united in a common purpose by the federal govt. What works in one state may not work in another and the citizens of each state should decide for themselves how they should be governed I apologize for rambling so much. It's been a long day and I'm having trouble thinking straight
  11. "I learned how to use a bow and arrow in the boy scouts, and that wasn't enough so I learned how to fight with a halberd, Florentine, sword and shield and battle ax. Learned how to throw a hand ax < I kilo head>, hawk, knife and ax...do I have too much time on my hands or just really weird hobbys?" You need to be posting this info down in the "Zombie Talk" thread.. You be elected king during a zombie pockylips! Hahahahahah

I'm approaching that size Awake. There was a song back in the 1940's called "Mr five by five" that would almost describe me. Can't do it above ground Reg.. All true Memphians know that real BBQ is cooked below ground. We do make exceptions in times of desperation or, as we would call it here, TSHTF... I'm actually gonna follow Obama's example on this one and say that she doesn't understand just because I failed to explain it well enough. Either that, or I'm digging it in my closet and not telling her! HAH

Did you hear Obama's speach at that dinner? He mentioned giving Mathews a thrill up his leg four years ago and thought he might have given him a stroke during the first debate. Oh if only that were true.. Nah, that's cruel of me to say. What was it Mark Twain said? "I have never actually prayed for somebody's death, but I've smiled after reading several obituaries". Something like that anyway.

Capt? Laurie (the Missus) came into the bedroom and closed the door so she and the youngun wouldnt have to hear me laughing and yelling at the TV. I strted out fact checking but stopped about 30 minutes into it because the lies were just blatant. I was planning on switching over to watch Chris Mathews have a meltdown but I decided I'd laughed enough by then and went to bed.

Down here we're fond of red beans and rice on Mondays. From what the wife says, Monday was traditionally laundry day and the women would just let the dish simmer all day while they did laundry. Throw in some Conecuh sausage or Andouille and you've got a feast! A few more hog huntin trips or deer and I'll be sitting pretty also. The missus said she would NOT let me dig a BBQ pit in the back yard though!

    DIY Plans

"Sled rails for the winter" I've been living on the coast too long. My first thought was "sled rails? Don't ya mean some big over inflated bog tires?" I forget some people still get snow instead of torrential rains! Another thought was "I wonder if you could use that plastic wood that people use for decks and porches these days? Wouldn't have to worry about rot. Wish I'd known ya'll might like a classic buckboard. My Mom donated our wagon, a sled, and a doctor's buggy to a museum last year. We never used the sled, even in Memphis.
  19. A Dutch photographer found some photo negatives of soldiers from WWII and matched them up with modern pics of the same locations. They look like ghosts. I thought some of you might enjoy seeing them if you haven't. http://news.yahoo.com/photos/ghosts-of-history-slideshow/

And I will listen to it. I'm with ya on voting for him in a heartbeat. I think he would have been great!
  21. I just remembered a discussion I had with some of the National Guard guys on my route a few months ago. There was supposed to be a program for civilians to come out and learn to work with them, fire some of the big guns, learn the vehicles and procedures. It sounded at the time like it was going to be kind of like ROTC for the average citizen. Didn't happen here though, just too small an outfit and got shuffled around through channels I guess. It'd be weird if that was part of it though....
  22. Ya'll forgot that Russia tried Afghanistan and failed , but they're still backing and supplying forces in the area. And so are we. The attack in Libya is a prime example. We supplied weapons and the ambassador was the deal maker. He was trying to find out where they were and to get them back when he was killed by Alkaida (however you spell it). No good will come from the back door politics and even less good will come from the fact that the entire world sees the U.S. as weak now. We are still waiting on the standard "October surprise" from Obama and I worry that all this may lead up to an attack that we MUST rally against (ie-war). That would make Obama strong in some eyes and help him win a very tight election. Then, four more years of growing govt power and taking away personal freedom and liberty. Having U.N. troops or other troops here (even just a few) would guarantee that power in case American troops adhered to the Posse comitus laws and refused to fire on American civilians. I'm not a conspiracy theorist but I don't trust our government in it's present form and I try to look at all options.

Hah! That's a good one Reg! Here's the secret Bill. Don't listen to the clowns that rehash the debate. Take notes during the debate, hit the pause on the DVR or whatever, then go check their statements for yourself. Don't take somebody's word for what the candidates said. Go to the new york times, Associated Press, Drudge report, washington post, etc etc ad nauseum. You're upset because of the spin that each side puts on it. Take them out of it and you take away their power to influence your decision. I researched each candidates record, all the way back in the primaries. All of them have better records than Obama, but thats my opinion based on what I found and what I look for in a candidate. The facts may lead you to choose Obama or Gary Johnson, or even an empty milk bottle. But it'll be your choice, not the TV talking head's choice. That's the biggest benefit and result of being part of this web forum and being a prepper. We don't need the spinmeisters, we think for ourselves. Here's one that I chuckled about for weeks: I liked Herman Caine. He's a great businessman, he was a mathematician for the Navy, and if he had won the primary.... Oh my God can you believe the fun if Obama had tried to play the race card!?!?!? I really liked Perry, but my biggest wish was that Fred Thompson had become President. I'm still hoping for that one someday!
